What's weird to me is all the ones saying they realised they were free to express themselves however they wanted, without that making them a man or woman, which is why they're now non binary. How do you realise it's all based on bullshit stereotypes, and not take that final step of "I'm just a man or woman who has some atypical interests". Unless that's what non binary is to you, at which point, why bother with the label?

As someone who's been convinced that gender is the single greatest cause of human misery since I was a teen, this drives me nuts! My best guess is that such people take gender (that is, the male gender-role and female gender-role) as a given, so, if it doesn't "fit" them, then the only alternative is... some "third gender" category, in essence. Not simply taking this as proof that gender is bullshit, and scrapping the entire thing. It's maddening to me... but probably the inevitable result of making "gender" what amounts to a religion, complete with indoctrination of the young, excommunication of heretics, and crusades against "heathens". These people can only think in terms of "church doctrine"; to them, there IS nothing outside gender.

In a nutshell: to them, it's gender's world... we all just live in it.
