One of my closest friends are a "true" asexual. She is completely inndifferent towards sex and romantic relationships and has been all of her life. I thought that she was a fellow lesbian for a while, cause we both expressed such a disconnect from our peers when it came to relationships with the opposite sex. Later, I understood that she holds the same attitude towards relationships, regardless of the sex of the other person involved in it. It is for people like her that the label asexual should be for. Not for identity tourists that wants to collect oppression points.

Itìs very very rare way of being, but I wonder if she living life more at peace by being free of this desire. As beautiful and exciting sex and romance can be, they're a source of great stress and pain too. It would be nice if there were a switch enabling people to turn off such desires, there would be much less sufferance in the world I guess.
