Idk. Maybe this is a little macabre. I’ve been watching a lot of news about Afghanistan and I’m just incredibly sad today. I don’t want this to be a political fight. I just wanted to say that I’m incredibly heartbroken for and worried about all the women and LGB people who’s lives are going to be made living hells by those miserable bastards.

Yeah I get it. I kinda knew this was going to happen but it's still horrible regardless. It has bothered me a lot about how women, LGB and other ethnic/religious minorities are treated in so many Islamic countries. At the end of the day we were fighting a military battle when you have to win the hearts of minds in those places and unfortunately we aren't doing that with the people with actual power.

At most I just hope it leans to a more critical eye towards Islam and religious fundamentalism in the West that receives too much tolerance when attempts have been made to infringe on basic rights and freedoms we all deserve. The Taliban are true Muslims and that is the world they wish for. Ex Muslims and other minorities fleeing from the Hellscape that is the ME are the ones who deserve our true sympathies.

The right thing to do though is to get away from what you can't change. To ensure you are okay over information is a serious problem today.

Well, I know this will not be received well, but it needs to be said.

Stop watching TV news. It doesn't inform you. It emotionally manipulates you into engaging in dictated behavior. It's behavior modification. It's a political tool.

You can get more and better information just by searching a topic on Duckduckgo or Qwant.

To be fair, she didn't say she was watching news on the TV, just that she was watching rather than say reading.

That said, I'll second Duckduckgo. I am still amazed comparing my search results between DDG and Google.

Hey, just saw this but I've been catching up on Afghanistan-related news, too. It is really, really messed up, the whole situation.

I just wanted to say that I’m incredibly heartbroken for and worried about all the women and LGB people who’s lives are going to be made living hells by those miserable bastards.

I thought of other LGB people when I heard the news about it, too. People talk in vague terms sometimes about "human rights violations," but our people-- people like us, I mean, same-sex-attracted people, LGB people-- are among the most likely to be victims.

Hope you're able to talk to some people IRL about it, this stuff can get depressing. Take care <3
