But I have heard that the US government has a deep state that controls the presidency, so that it doesn’t matter who the president is.

This is never openly admitted or acknowledged, but it is transparently obvious if you look at policy in any area other than divisive and relatively meaningless social controversies. Yeah, it's great that Democrats eventually begrudgingly supported same-sex marriage and Republicans did not, but for economic policy and foreign policy, i.e. questions that have actual impact on most Americans' lives, even those of LGBs, the two parties are indistinguishable.

Even state and local elections are relatively meaningless, as they are still driven by large donors. But, yes, they are slightly more democratic than US presidential and congress elections.

Regarding Ireland, I have very little detailed knowledge of Irish politics, but I am not surprised that the EU and Silicon Valley wield enormous power there.

That’s sad to hear. I hear that there are talks of secession in states like Texas. What are the odds of that happening?

Yeah, politics in Ireland sucks. Other than that, it’s a good country to live in- well, it was a good country, until the lockdowns came in 2020 and the government took away our civil rights. Rent rates are increasing, houses that were up for sale have been bought out by multinational investor firms who will rent the houses out, most of our college graduates are leaving the country for work, our healthcare system is terrible, our police have become tyrants, our government controlled media shames people who criticise the government and these no alternative media aside from local radio stations and newspapers, crime is going up, we're the only country in Europe where indoor dining is not allowed, drugs are being trafficked through our country and our airports are being used as stopovers by the US military while they’re on their way to the Middle East, hate speech laws are being proposed and media does not allow debate on these proposed laws, and Ireland has a self-ID gender identity law. All of the political parties except for Aontú and the National Party will make these things worse. Sadly, Aontú only has one seat in the parliament and that’s because its founder was already in parliament when he founded the party. The National Party doesn’t stand a chance. The only ways out for Ireland is for most of the country to civilly disobey the government and make the police afraid of us, or for a revolution like the French Revolution to occur. We’ve had uprisings in this country, after all, that’s how we got our independence from the British. But Irish people usually put up with a lot of oppression until we rise up, because most of the time, we’re scared to stand up for ourselves or rock the boat. But there are protests happening in the UK, France, Greece and the Netherlands, and we do have protests here. Sadly, our protests are small and they don’t seem to be working. But who knows? Ireland has been having serious problems since the 2008 recession, but we’ve had problems with the way this country has been run since Éamon de Valera came to power in 1932, so maybe the last straw is coming soon, that will propel Irish people into a rebellion. Hopefully. Then again, the Irish government and the Irish media suck up to Joe Biden, and they might ask America to send in troops to silence dissent.

TL;DR: Ireland is not a free country, and our democracy is a sham. We’re fascist in all but name.

Almost nil. Contrary to popular belief, once a state joins the Union there is no legal way for it to leave without triggering a war, Texas included. This was decided by our Civil War.

Texas has the legal right to split itself into up to five smaller states, which give it up to 10 federal Senators- a huge political advantage which would be opposed by the other states. So that's not happening either.

Don't know if you find this comforting or not, but Biden has been floating bringing in the UN to evaluate our police forces. I think it's more likely we'll end up having Irish UN Peacekeepers here than the other way 'round.

Trust me, you don’t want UN peacekeepers in your country. They would not make your police officers better, they would probably make your cops worse. If I was an American cop, I would resign instead of let some foreigner who works for the UN talk down to me.

In fact, I wished that the Irish military would stop working with the UN. Our military should exist only to ensure that our country doesn’t get invaded and nobody smuggled in drugs or other dangerous stuff to our country. I don’t want Irish soldiers, sailors or airmen in foreign countries. I also want Ireland out of the UN. Every country should leave. The UN should not exist at all.

There are a lot of political commentators who think the Biden administration is intentionally provoking conservative Americans in the hopes that the latter will lash out violently and give the administration a basis to crack down on them. They want a domestic War on Terror™️ focused on their political opposition (who they are pretending are violent white supremacists, without much proof.)

Bringing blue helmets onto U.S. soil would simultaneously provoke American nationalists, who would see them as invaders and are armed to the teeth already, and give Biden extra troops to hunt his own people with.

So goes the theory. We'll see in six months.

Your description of blue helmets coming to America is similar to how the majority of refugees coming into Europe are military-aged men. It’s almost as if western governments hate their own people.

It feels that way. I'm talking to somebody else about the U.S. obesity epidemic rn, and honestly the fundamental explanation is that our government doesn't give a shit about us or our health. Our government also aids and abets (and indirectly funds) Antifa, who are literal terrorists. Many Antifa leaders in Portland (their base city here) have been outed as having trained with communist forces in Syria during the Obama Admin.

I wouldn't be surprised if government officials in various E.U. countries have ties to Antifa/Le Black Bloc or whatever they call themselves. My understanding is that they go back decades there, whereas they're a new group here. There seems to be a Syria-Anarchist-Leftist politician pattern.

I find it hilarious how governments don’t care about people’s health, then suddenly they lock us down and try to force us to get vaccinated “for our safety”. Obviously, people should take the vaccine if they need it, but they shouldn’t be forced to take it if they won’t want to or if they’re not ready to take it. Also, keeping us indoors and closing down gyms and parks adds to the obesity problem.

Yes, the government loves Antifa. They’ve destroyed cities across America and Germany. We also have Antifa here in Ireland, but they got their asses handed to them at an anti-paedophile rally in Dublin last year. Sadly, Antifa have gotten smarter here, and the government is doing everything they can to protect them.

Either Antifa are a neoliberal organisation, or a lot of western countries have become communist.

Antifa chose to side with paedophiles in Ireland? That's bold.

I know we talk a lot here about how mysterious the rise of the transgender... cult, movement, whatever it is... has been to see. Something's happening behind the scenes that makes all these political movements interconnect. The one trait they share is endless funding.

Ireland has a bad history with the government protecting paedophiles. We used to have a problem with priests molesting children up until recently. When the grown up victims of child defilement came forward for justice, the police and government refused to press charges against the molesters, and even went as far as to have some of the victims arrested. Thankfully, one of the victims refused to be bullied into silence by the government, so she went to the European Court of Human Rights, and the ECHR ruled in her favour. This was in 2013, by the way, so this was recent. The government all of a sudden acted all innocent, blamed the Catholic Church for all of the abuse and closed the embassy in the Vatican. However, the politicians, the journalists and the police officers who protected the paedophiles and harassed the victims got off scot-free. And even today you have "pro-human rights" and "feminist" politicians trying to protect paedophiles not just in the church but also in schools, sports clubs, the media, certain military institutions and even the police. This wasn’t a church problem, this has been a government problem.

There is not a snowball's chance in hell of Texas or any other state seceding without a major political and social collapse.

Let's see: aside from indoor dining being allowed in most places, a geography too large to make focused statements about drug trafficking and airport stopovers, and differences in the dynamics of a parliamentary system of government and that of the US -- I would say that you could be describing the state of affairs in the US.

Yeah, America is fucked. So is Ireland, because at least America has indoor dining in most places. Our foreign policy isn’t as bad, because Ireland doesn’t invade other countries as much as America does. But we do invade other countries, on the orders of the UN. Irish soldiers go into Lebanon and other countries on orders from the UN, which is wrong - Irish soldiers should stay in Ireland and train Irish people how to prepare in case there is an invasion or a civil war. Plus, the Irish government loves to lash out at other countries whenever they do something that the Irish government doesn’t like, even though it’s none of our business, and these countries could kick our arses if they wanted to. So far, our government has been uncooperative with the UK over Brexit, and even if you’re against Brexit, the UK has the sovereign right to join or leave international unions. Our government has also criticised Sweden over how Sweden has handled COVID, even though this is entirely a Swedish affair, and I think Sweden has the right approach to the pandemic. Other countries the Irish government has pissed off jnclude America, Poland, Hungary, Belarus, Russia and so on. The idea of letting other countries do what they want in their own borders does not matter to the Irish government, because the Irish government does not work for the Irish people; they work for international elites, the EU, the UN and Silicon Valley. I honestly wouldn’t surprise if people from other countries start to hate the Irish because of our corrupt neoliberal government. If we had the population of America, and the same amount of nukes as America, we’d be just as hated as Americans.

For the record, I love my country. But because I love my country, I passionately despise my government and my legal system.

I can confidently say that the US does not hate Ireland (for whatever that is worth to you). Also, for Irish-Americans, Ireland is "home".

I don't have a drop of Irish blood (I'm of mostly southern European extraction). But my husband is a mix of Irish and English, 100% British Isles. At least that's what 23-and-Me told him.

I’m glad Americans are cool with us, but you would hate our government as much as we do if you all knew how things were done here.
