Queer is used in Dutch as well. It's an English term. There are Dutch insults for homosexuals, but none of them have a similar meaning to queer. I guess it makes more sense for them to use queer than to call themselves something that's actually an insult here.

The Queer Movement has adopted the word to mean "sexually different," but it is indeed still being used as a pejorative for gay men by most English speakers. The justification given by queer people is that they're reclaiming an insult. Why don't Dutch queers do that, I wonder?

It's a good question. They should call themselves brown workers or ass rowers, though I guess those are more specific to gay men.
