Considering UK undergraduates pay £9000* a year and international students pay a fee at least triple that, £2500 is chump change for major research-intensive institutions like UCL and Oxford.

Edit: $12,500 for our friends across the pond. Not the same as what students at the top-flight American universities pay, but picture Harvard saying they 'couldn't afford' to be part of a $5000 / year scheme.

It’s basically said with a wink that says “You know I can’t say the real reasons out loud quite yet and that is exactly the problem.”

You know I’m realizing how much of a relief it must be for a lot of these institutions to have an excuse to leave this scheme and en masse too so they don’t get Stonewall’s wrath uniquely focused on them. People are in a fog but they know things are tense and that it’s impossible to have basic conversations and the kind of structured communications TRAs push for never happen outside of trans-controlled spaces.
