I’m all for some amount of red tape to make sure that abusive people don’t get to adopt, but there shouldn’t be this much red tape. No parent is perfect. Human beings are flawed creatures.

I go back and forth between a kid needing male and female parents and that not being particularly important. I know teenage boys and girls need that older same sex parent like figure as a role model. That said, through the work that I've done I've encountered a lot of kids (well, former kids) who grew up in horrific environments with parents or adults who abused and/or neglected them. Like if you're a normal person you can't imagine the things some people do to children. So I think that providing a kid with a safe and stable home, with attentive parents that love them puts you like 90% of the way there (and is also one of the most amazing things you can do for a person). So I go back and forth on this one.

There is nothing like having a mother and father rising you together. However, having two same sex parents is still close and they can do a job to raise a child right. That said, a child with two dads is going to need his or her aunts more than a typical child would, but most people have aunts or uncles or grandparents or neighbours they get along with anyway.
