I feel bad for r/truscum. I don't necessarily agree with all of their ideas, but they're definitely the sane and rational trans peeps. They need to drop the alphabet soup too if trans people are ever going to get the support they need.

And something else they should drop: The slur "truscum." They aren't scum. Using that term on themselves plays along with TRA bullying. Ignoring it would be better.

True.

They used to have r/TrueTrannies, but it became overrun with spam and the mod was MIA. So two different users made subs r/truscum and r/transmedical. The r/TrueTrannies mod came back, and didn't know what to do with the sub since everyone bailed, so first they just deleted everything, and then finally made it private.

r/truscum took off faster than r/transmedical since it was made first, so that's where everyone tends to congregate. I believe they may also have two slightly different approaches. Transmeds believe in the goal of medical transition, whereas Truscum may or may not. Both believe gender dysphoria is required to be trans though, and that dysphoria is something medical in nature - whether it's a genuine biology/brain-based diagnosis or a mental illness is up for debate among them.

They could't go to r/transexual because it's being squatted on by powermods who reject "truscum". I don't remember why they didn't head over to r/transsexual (2 S-es) - there's a whole new mod team and rules there currently, so maybe it was also being squatted on back in the day or too open to "tucute" at the time.

Thank you for this history. I hope they stop accepting the incidental incorporation of a self-imposed slur into their conversation space at some point, and migrate to a new one.
