If I'm understanding correctly, it's similar to what happened in the UK last year, where there was an attempt to disallow schools to teach about gender identity and/or sexuality unless permitted by individual parents. IIRC, the UK bills failed because they already have an Equality Act in place and it was looking to amend/change it. Not sure what our friends over in AUS have going already though.
