For the first time the 2021 census will ask about respondents’ sexual orientation, but the options offered have angered lesbian activists says Jo Bartosch. The categories ‘lesbian and gay’ have been merged into one in the 2021 census, meaning that whilst bisexuals and heterosexuals are able to identify themselves clearly, female and male homosexuals are grouped together.

Online lesbian activists have argued that the “lesbian and gay experience is different from that of gay men” and that as such there ought to be space for women to define themselves as ‘lesbian’ in a distinct category.

From trying to dig up concrete numbers for male vs female bisexuals I know firsthand it's so hard finding statistics online when it's just one big blob mixed together. It sucks that they are doing the same thing to gays and lesbians now. (Though while looking for numbers, I've seen it done to you guys before. It's ridiculous.) Sometimes you can dig through the other data in the study and figure out for yourself the % or # of males and females, but now with all the self-identifying gender people, I wonder how high the number of "lesbians" are going to spike up all of a sudden?

There is the exact same problem with Middle Eastern/West Asian/Central Asian/South Asian in the US census. In America it all gets lumped in with white so we are basically erased while the white numbers get an artificial boost. We don't fucking exist on paper. They are slowly doing the same thing to LGB now. (I know the above post is about Britain, I'm just going off because I can honestly complain about this topic for days.) Who are these numbers for? How are they used? Why are they needed? How does their collection benefit us? And most importantly, how do inaccuracies harm us? The government needs to answer these questions, especially to the gays and lesbians being affected.

A bit off topic, but yes! The last census listed Egyptian as an example of white. I thought last time round quite a few North African and Middle Eastern people were angered about being lumped in with Germans and the Irish. Artificially boosting the white number makes it easier to keep portraying whites as the dominant "oppressor" majority when really they are almost at minority status themselves, so it keeps the Woke Narrative going.

Lumping LGBTQ+ all together gives more power to T and the self-styled Q. If they're just putting LGB as a group, still there's a huge problem because how many claiming to be L are actually AGP? How many anime fan transmen are marking that they are gay men?

Is Jedi Knight on there or a write-in option? The whole country could do that in protest. Then you'd know any who claimed to be L were AGP trying to validate themselves.

I feel like this would be less of a problem if this census actually asked about sex, as well. Because then you could just be like "okay X amount of respondents are female and homosexual and Y amount are male and homosexual" but now there really is no way to tell the difference.
