Lol, typical of Penis News and ILGA to call people like JK Rowling a monster. She’s fairly sensible. I hope it’s true that the U.K. is standing up to the TRAs. I hope more European countries do.

By the way, don’t trust ILGA’s Rainbow Europe rankings. They put gay friendly countries like Ireland, the Netherlands and France low on the list because we don’t give enough special privileges to trans people. But what can you expect from an organisation that had to be pressured into cutting ties with NAMBLA? It would be nice if every country in Europe had the gay rights policies of Ireland and the trans policies of Hungary. Ireland has gay marriage and gay adoption, and Hungary does not recognise sex changes at all.

I was also confused about the ILGA’s Rainbow Europe rankings. Granted, I’m not a fabulously well-traveled American, but I do have a good Dutch friend irl. By all accounts, the Netherlands sounds like the opposite of homophobic. And nothing on the news about Ireland or France makes them seem like horrible places for LGB people. It just sounds like more of the “well they don’t bow to every whim of TQ so we’ll say they’re homophobic” narrative were all so sick of.

The Netherlands was the first country to legalise same sex marriage. Calling the Dutch homophobic is dumb.

You see, the criteria for how European countries are ranked is based solely on legislation and mechanisms for protection. The problem is, you get more marks for having a government-sanctioned equality body that fines anyone who criticises trans ideology or drag queen story hour, than you do for allowing gay marriage. That’s why a country like Georgia, which has no gay marriage no civil unions, could have a higher rank than a country like Iceland, which has gay marriage.

I hope I live to see the day when people realize that the opposite of homophobia isn’t a million commissions on LGBT rights and rainbows plastered everywhere. It’s just treating us like normal, boring people.

Exactly. Most of us, especially me myself, just want to be left alone.
