I'm going to post the text from the holding page along witg a link to the site below, the context is as follows;
The Boyz publisher was harassed and attacked online after they suggested that people listen to both sides of a debate before making their minds up and they apologised.
That wasn't enough and Health Campaign funding was pulled which was a yearly thing set up with Terrence Higgins Trust thus denying vital health information to gay men at risk of contracting HIV - it appears that the apology was not enough and that Gay men's lives were the price worth paying to punish wrong think.
So the owner is now setting up an alternative news site that seeks to offer a mature counterbalance to the Gender Woo Woo of the likes of Pink News, Advocate, Attitude, Diva etc.
Lesbian and Gay News is an alternative source of news and opinion. Lesbian and Gay News picks up from an historic tradition of British lesbian and gay publications such as Gay News, which ran from 1972-1983, and The Pink Paper, which ran for 25 years from 1987.
We’re here to reflect the lives, politics and culture of same sex attraction and to report today's major debates around sex and gender. Most importantly, we're determined to do so in a temperate, informed and respectful way.
We’re lining up an impressive range of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender writers and journalists plus we’ll be introducing you to The Lesbian and Gay Conversation, a special area for our readers to debate, discuss and meet each other in a safe and secure online space.
Our launch date in February will be announced here soon.
We hope that you will enjoy reading Lesbian and Gay News.
Why we're launching Lesbian and Gay News
'They're throwing the lesbians under the bus,' said a friend I’ve known for 15 years. The truth struck me like a bolt of lightning. We were talking three years ago about the polarised, and sometimes vitriolic, debates about sex and gender which had started wrecking our community’s conversations then. And still are.
We're launching Lesbian and Gay News this month as an alternative source of news and opinion. We believe there are an increasing number of lesbians, bisexuals and gay men who want to read nuanced journalism that more closely reflects their lived experience and their personal beliefs. They want a safe and secure online space to read about issues that matter to them, to connect and to debate. Lesbian and Gay News will offer that.
Most UK and US lesbian and gay news outlets now embrace an all-encompassing umbrella belief in LGBTQIA+ as the only perspective through which they are prepared to report the world. But such a uniform mindset often stops discussion of issues important predominantly to lesbian women or of concern only to gay men.
A conformist and rigidly policed LGBTQIA+ mindset is seen by increasing numbers of lesbian women and gay men as confusing to the reality of their biological same sex attraction. Lesbian and Gay News will accept that a lesbian woman’s viewpoint may not be exactly the same as LGBTQIA+ groupthink and that a gay man may not have exactly the same perspective as a transman, or non-binary man, or a man who defines himself as queer.
We're being encouraged by lesbians, bisexuals and gay men whose views embrace the entire political spectrum. But we suspect that most of our readers will sit somewhere in the thoughtful centre. Whatever their position, too many have watched the polarised extremism of the often abusive sex/gender debate in our communities with growing apprehension and fear.
You can't have a fruitful debate if one side is always shouted down or ‘No Platformed’. And you can't have a fruitful debate if those who engage in good faith become targets of threats and abuse or are described glibly and without justification as motivated by ‘hate’. Most important, you can never win a debate – and many lesbian, bisexuals and gay men have decades of experience in doing that through the prism of their own lives – if you don't trouble to enter it in the first place. You certainly won't win any debate in the wide political domain.
Inflamed by the paraffin of social media, it's become a brutal world for people who don't subscribe uncritically to LGBTQIA+ groupthink or who are gender critical. Too many lesbians, bisexuals and gay men are now fearful of expressing their opinions. Too many more are constrained in both their personal and professional lives even from exploring some of the issues our communities are wrestling with. That's hardly surprising when decent longtime allies are shamelessly traduced in the public space, rather than engaged. And no one's mind will be changed by debate if debate is forbidden in the first place.
The censorious groupthink of a LGBTQIA+ mindset has closed down wider discussion and investigation. It has closed down much responsible lesbian and gay current affairs and commentary. But now we hope Lesbian and Gay News will help resurrect that journalism. We’re gradually lining up an impressive range of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender writers and journalists plus we’ll be introducing you to The Lesbian and Gay Conversation, a special subscribers area for our readers to debate, discuss and meet each other in a safe and secure online space.
I’ve been running Boyz magazine for 30 years, but before that I co-edited The Pink Paper with the late Alison Dilly. I’m proud that our journalism is grounded in our shared lesbian and gay community history. It’s a way to understand the place we are today.
We aim to use this experience, and much more, to help develop Lesbian and Gay News into a website that you'll enjoy reading and contributing to - without fear, censorship or threats.
