It isn't just the female captain, its the fact that almost any and all "white male" characters in a position of authority are assholes, while anyone else is just simply better. They are more intelligent, compassionate, better at their jobs, more courageous, etc. The main character's story arc so far is borderline absurd(at least as far as I've gotten) but it fits the current lefty politics. As I said, its a good show, but there is clearly an agenda being pushed, same thing for Supergirl on the CW. It's a good comic book show, but they address social topics in a very heavy handed way.
