A ridiculous article. Reddit has a search engine. That does not make it a search engine. Nor are people switching to it from Google.

For the time being, Google still gets the job done. It's better than Yahoo! and Bing.

I hate to agree with someone I still can't tell whether is a troll or not, but I must agree with you there. Yahoo is dogshit, Bing isn't much better, and Brave is still very unpolished. At the present moment, it's Google, DuckDuckGo, or nothing, and Google is more mainstream so it clearly is doing mostly alright for a lot of people.

They intentionally killed it.

YouTube search results now favor black skin over quality. You can search for just about any topic and they'll gib the top results to a black guy who shot a somewhat relevant, terrible video on his Obama phone. On page 3 you'll see the scripted, professionally shot video on the exact topic you searched for, ranked lower because the white devil made it.

They actually announced that they were doing this intentionally at some point in 2020. I don't have the link handy but I'm sure you can find it (using DuckDuckGo).

Fuck Google.

This is exactly why I want to build a 3rd party search engine for social media content. The problem is I don't have the skills or time. It's also hard to pitch because at the core of it is just another "news aggregator" like saidit.

But there is not really a good search option on here, and the platform is clunky. There is no automation in it, so you rely on human labor and that is super slow and unreliable.

I would love to be able to have an app that would allow a custom search algorithm for YouTube, that would also return results from other platforms. Something with good suggested videos.

You can do all the custom indexing that you want with https://yacy.net/ It's not quite your ideal video tool but it's something.

I hate that. I had such good Google Fu. I used to have a job where I Googled myself 6 figures a year. The asked. I Googled. Then answered. If they only knew.
