Any Firefox fork is inferior to Firefox privacy-wise because no one uses it, so your fingerprint will be unique AF.

I like that it's on GitLab rather than GitHub, which has some issues and sketchy owners. Decentralizing is always good. There are other Git and Dev sites too. I'd tell you more but that's all I know.

GitLab is behind Cloudflare (a MITM), which is even worse. However, LibreWolf itself is very good.

That's a bummer to hear. A few years ago I was chatting with some A.I. folks at Mycroft and they were in the process of migrating from GitHub to GitLab because of reasons I've forgotten. At the time it seemed an obvious better move, like going from the popular Google to the lesser used but superior DuckDuckGo.

I went to download both LibréWolf and LibréBrowser (I hope we don't need the accent ague) but neither were available just yet.

" Mycroft is a free software voice assistant for GNU -based operating systems which use a Linux-based kernel. It uses a natural language user interface. Its code was formerly copyleft, but is now under a lax license. It is named after a fictional computer from 1966 science fiction novel The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress. " ~ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mycroft_(software)

It's a bummer that Mycroft is no longer opensource too! Also, FYI, The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress took the Mike/Mycroft name from Sherlock Holmes' brother (fictional characters all).

I've used and enjoyed SRWare Iron (basically hardened chrome) so I'll definitely check this out...

If you guys are seriously worried about privacy - install and set up a Pi-Hole, I can't tell you how much better the internet is. The little bugger blocks 25% of the traffic attempting to come through my network. So many ads and trackers it's unreal to watch it in action.

Any info on plug ins, or video download capacities? Does it by any chance give you control over the media it is displaying so that you can retain it in case of censorship?

That and will it be update to date with firefox, or will it lag behind like the other forks?

From the site: LibreWolf is always built from the latest Firefox stable source.

I'd like something like the old v56 - especially for the vertical tabs.

I would hope that's the case, I'll have to check it out. :)

If it has the Libre name affixed to it, then it has more support than what it was based on. Assuming that it is the same group that works on Libreoffice, that now takes the position in the linux community that Openoffice once held.

Libré just means free as in freedom and free of charge.

ie. /s/FLOSS = Free/Libré Open Source Software

I do not think they are connected in any way.

But maybe this one is: https://librebrowser.com/

I'm not seeing mentioned that this was from the same group that did LibreOffice. Just because it has "Libre" in front, doesn't tell me it's from The Document Foundation. :P

Edit: Also, I should note, I have nothing against such a project. Just rather see one that makes good use of a fork, and not fork just to make a statement.

I did a little looking around as well. Other than the name, which could just be optimism on their part, I too couldn't find a connection.
