Hydrogen powered cars will only matter if cheap, carbon neutral power is available to create the hydrogen. At that point even atmospheric fuel synthesis by sucking out the CO2 and creating synthetic fossil fuels could be considered. But the key is cheap, clean and carbon neutral power. Not too many people are working on that.

The solar stuff is fine but I'm actually hoping that China hits it out of the park with the thorium MSR. That will drive the world to clean energy quicker than wind, solar or hydroelectric. It might even enable fuel synthesis from the atmosphere.
