Interview with a Catholic EXORCIST | Msgr. Stephen J. Rossetti by Teresa Yanaros by FlippyKing in Hail_Mary

I am posting this video here, because Mary does come up in a couple of contexts. Her role in exorcisms is mentioned, as it is in many accounts from exorcists. Just how real the supernatural is becomes clear, as it does in the accounts of psychologists who are not religious when dealing with drug addicts and prisoners in prisons. It's really astonishing, but that is another topic. Also though, the interviewer has had a direct experience with Our Lady of Guadeloupe, so that's amazing.

If you look here in Hail Mary you will also see a video from an Eastern Orthodox priest talking about why Jesus gives Mary anything she asks. It's amazing and brings so much of what Catholicism and Orthodoxy are about into focus. She was the only one who could bring the supernatural into the natural world. The prayers the Angelus and the Magnificat both spell it out so well, and they are just biblical scripture.

A simple, very effective devotion, The Three Hail Marys Devotion. by FlippyKing in Hail_Mary

This is another take on the devotion of saying three Hail Marys, with a little history.

When I first saw the title of the video, I thought "we only do 3? Since when???" If we say the Prayer to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, we do three Hail Mary's at the end of it (plus a Glory Be). We do the Angelus Prayer (so 3 more), we say 5 decades of the Rosary (so, fifty plus the three at the start for an increase in Faith Hope and Charity), and we say the 3 Hail Mary's (I'm up to 62 Hail Marys here)

But the Three Hail Marys devotion is as I think I said above is a surprisingly effective way of getting help avoiding sin. It doesn't make a lot of sense, because it is literally supernatural. It just works if you are trying and serious about it. If you don't want it, no amount of help will help. She really is there, she really is real, and if you ask and are serious, she's really there for you even if you do not see or hear her or you don't get all the toys you want. This life is never the point, the situations we're born into or we end up in are our crosses to bear in trying to make the world better and help others. Everything else is not the point.

If you gather from other parts of this little sub, then you see there is something powerful there for us if we take it but we have to believe and we have to want "Thy" (God's!) will be done, not ours. That is the tough one to get our head around. "What's the harm in ... " any number of things may not be apparent to us, but some things become more clear if we try to stick to the rules and learn. The harm to others becomes obvious. But, the harm we do to our selves starts to become clear too.

The idea that there is such a thing a spiritual sickness becomes self evident, and you can't like "unsee it" once you do. There's a reason saints reject the world and their own weaknesses in such stark and surprising words, and long for heaven so fervently. Everything does not become clear, it can't; but so much does. Does that make anything easier? I'm not sure.

How to fulfill the FIRST SATURDAY devotion in just ONE HOUR by FlippyKing in Hail_Mary

[–]FlippyKing[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

While I squander time finding the next-most earliest apparition of Our Lady, (and not post as a result, sorry) this is still very important for us to do.

Our Lady at Fatima gave us specific instructions. She further gave Sister Lucy after that more details and more things we are to do. I think "she told us to" is really all the reason needed but I also think, and this thought I guess comes first, that anyone looking at Fatima seriously can not deny something supernatural was occurring there and that the Blessed Mary Mother Of God did appear to those kids and did tell them specific things. They thought Russia was a sick kid is some neighboring village when she told them we have to pray for Russia and all that.

There's a bible story about a king who had some kind of sickness. He was told to -- I dont' know lie down on the ground somewhere, or take a bath in some specific place, something like that-- do something very easy to do. He balked at the idea. His advisor asked him if the instruction was complicated and seemed like a cure, would he do it? The king said yes. So the advisor said, well King maybe do this easy thing and just accept the gift. In Jesus' life, the miracles he performed involved some sort of, usually very small, ritual almost always. So making a gesture is not out of the ordinary.

Here, Our Lady gave us relatively simple tasks and the promise she made for this are big. She always gives more than she asks even if she seems to ask a lot (really though? Some prayers? confess sins ie be humble and own up to our own failings as people? Make peace with those around us before asking for some supernatural imposition of peace? Acknowledge that we're all in this together and we are our brother's keepers? If that's too much, we're screwed.)

Don't believe? OK. Maybe you don't. I ask you to try it anyway. This Saturday, take the time to say some Hail Marys and meditate on some Mysteries of the Rosary. But, consider it real and a mystery that is beyond our understanding if that makes it easier (as that is what it is anyway).

Just consider that a young woman in occupied Palestine heard an angel (Gabriel) deliver to her a message from God. Consider that she said, after suspicion and incredulity, "behold the handmaiden of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to thy word" or something along those lines and that "she conceived by the Holy Spirit". That she conceived a baby (Jesus) but also that she conceived in her mind the commitment she was making. There was a bigger plan at work and she had a role in it. She thought it through as best she could probably, anyone would. You see how this is applicable to us, right?

Say some Hail Marys (ten please, but really I'll take a few but it's not me your saying this to so consider that) if you are not really into this and just trying it because I'm asking (THANKS, btw!), and think about what it meant for her to hear an Angel and to accept a role in this.

Move on to the next mystery you'll consider while saying some Hail Marys: maybe (hopefully) her visitation to her pregnant cousin Elizabeth. (It's called the Visitation, the last one was called the Annunciation). She's pregnant, right? It was common for pregnant women to help each other. How else would one learn and who else knew about the birth process? So, think about this a bit. She sought allies or mentors and she helped out someone who was pregnant while she was going to need such help when she was ready to give birth. It's just very reasonable so far.

Next, she gives birth. The conception, God's plan, comes to fruition or at least the next step does. The fruit of her womb is born, Jesus. But this is just the beginning of it all. Say your Hail Marys over this mystery that seems just as real and every day as any other birth. If you have kids, then you know how much this is barely a beginning.

You can find how to pray the Rosary many places on line, you can find videos to do it along with but I don't recommend them (they either take to long you can' t really mediate with them without a ton of practice and finding the right ones) and I don't thinks she's asking anyone to do that if they do not know the mysteries to mediate on. She has said (I forget which apparition) that one good decade (ten Hail Marys) and good meditating is better than just saying the words without mediating. I sometimes find it hard to meditate while saying it, not always though. Often time is the problem. When it is not, but I find meditating hard while saying it, I mediate a bit before and after the 10 Hail Marys. There are ways to read and say bible passages that spell out the mysteries before each Hail Mary, but I think if you don't really do this then just meditating on them earnestly at face value is a good start.

If you are doing this because I asked, and not really up on all this Catholicism stuff, then THANK YOU! If you don't get a mystery, pick another and mediate on that. She asked for 5 decades to be prayed and meditated on. Technically she might not have asked for all the prayers before and after, but I don't know that for sure. So, if you're new to this and just trying it please consider up to 5 mysteries while saying some Hail Marys. Not more. I won't ask you that. But consider them and consider her real when you do this. 15 minutes on some of the mysteries, 5 if you can. 10 Hail Marys on them, or at least some of them, if you can. A couple on the others of the 5 if you can.

Ask her to help you understand. If you do this Saturday, thank you. If you mean it, then thank you thank you. Take a minute or two Sunday to reflect on that, because if you did ask her to help you understand you have to make yourself available to her to understand.

If you give her this time, and really do it and really mean it, and drop your ego and noise that might be going on in your mind or around you (this is not hard but there is some things that are just conducive to meditating and listening and praying and a lot of things that are not). Altered states are not helpful for this, not drug induced, not cranking up Sabbath or P-Funk, not anything other than natural calming meditative quite. Just, the same way you'd give your attention fully to someone else in life, give her that in the prayer on Saturday and if you want her to help you understand then a couple of minutes a day morning or night (or both really) to be open to her to answer you some how. She might answer that way. She might put something in your life or come across in a more social way or some other way. Discern cautiously, as she did when she questioned Gabriel, but don't look gift horses in the mouth either. If you did this right, with the right state of mind, humble, open, and not prideful or anything like that, I know she'll answer quietly. It is the supernatural we're talking about. The life everlasting is an afterlife, and while here in this life it is not sex drugs and rock and roll that is offered, think Thomas Merton not Taylor Hawkins.

If you struggle in life, try this. if the world seems a mess (well, it is), try this. It's simple really compared to our struggles or the mess of the world. So, why not try it?

The Little Crown of the Blessed Virgin Mary by FlippyKing in Hail_Mary

[–]FlippyKing[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The Little Crown of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a pray somewhat like the Rosary, that prays the crown of 12 Stars Our Lady has in the Book of Revelation.

This is then obviously related to Saint Ildephonsus' book The Crown of the Virgin, mentioned already in this sub here: https://saidit.net/s/Hail_Mary/comments/8ut1/saint_ildephonsus_and_the_crown_of_the_virgin/

The Little Crown prayer was enhanced, as such prayer sets always are by many Saints (and non-saints), by Saint Louis De Montfort. He taught it to both orders, priests and nuns, he founded and expects them to pray it every morning. (all this is said by Father Hugh Gillespie in the video).

For those who do not pray the Rosary* (footnote below), or for those who want something in addition to the one set of mysteries a day but not a whole other set or the full 15 (or 20) a day, this is a great prayer to start doing. I like it because I have convinced myself I can not do 15 decades a day. I am lucky to do one, late, falling asleep. I find doing the Rosary in the car tough to focus sometimes.

I also think about the importance of the Sorrowful Mysteries and how some pray the Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows of Mary daily, as reparation for or to share in her suffering. This chaplet I think is the same as the Servitors Rosary said by that religious order. I used to say that daily, but for no good reason it fell away from my practice.

There is the Daily Office of prayers, and the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary set of prayers that can be said daily and throughout the day. Both are based on the Breverie prayed by religious, shortened for lay people. But those options are not for everyone. The Rosary itself is meant as an alternative to praying the Psalms for those who could not read or did not have them handy. 50 Hail Marys a day as opposed to 50 Psalms a day is the idea. In that context, I see the Little Crown as a good option for part of one's morning prayers. It certainly is different than meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary, regardless of which set one chooses. (Though, it is in and of itself the 5 Glorious Mystery)

I think one can, if they want or if they do not have his version handy, say the Little Crown without all of Saint Louis De Montfort's additions. It is 12 Hail Marys, one for each star in her crown in the book of Revelation. Grouping them into 3 sets of 4, with an Our Father before and a Glory Be after, can be thought of as analogous to the imaginative exercise of Saint IIldephonsus' of making a crown the way a child might for their mother, preparing to make each set and stepping back and looking at it before continuing. The concluding prayer of De Montfort though is beautiful. I doubt anyone would want to skip that except for time or just not having it handy.

Try it out.

  • Really? She LITERALLY asked us at Fatima to do this DAILY. I put if off for far too long after knowing she asked us. Fatima really happened. We should take her seriously. She's very awesome, cool, wonderful, and every thing one would want from a Mother of God, a Queen of Heaven, and as I think it was Saint Cyril of Alexandria pointed out our Mother when we are born again into a heavenly and spiritual family. She is our mother, all of us, adopted into the family, just as it is at the end of the Gospel of John. Behold thy Mother. Not Christain, or "born again" or any of that? Guess what? We're all part of creation. She's the mother of God the Son, Spouse of God the Holy Spirit, favorite daughter of God the Father. She's mother to all of us in this context. It doesn't even matter if you're catholic or any of this: she's your mother in this spiritual supernatural sense. She wants you to pray the Rosary. You say no to your mother often?

The Marian Movement of Priests by FlippyKing in Hail_Mary

[–]FlippyKing[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I was just listening to this and felt a need to post it here, in the off chance that anyone sees this.

Father Gobbi's Marian Movement of Priests came about when he was moved by Our Lady on a pilgrimage to Fatima where other priests were thinking about starting a movement to resist the changes in the church (VII).

She tells father Gobbi in her last message to him in 1997 about how all has been revealed and she has taken her son as a child around with her in so many apparitions. It seems she is speaking to those who are devoted to her and her Son.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2KSk4W06m4

As seen elsewhere in this 'saidit' sub, Father Gobbi received a lot of elocutions. I think they were collected and published and distributed in a blue book as they happened, and the "blue army" was the movement of Catholic lay-people (normal people, not priests) that devoured them and started Rosary prayer groups and all that (before my time really). I can say I was lucky enough to have a priest who is in the Marian Movement of Priests near me and he is like a force of nature, so I thank God that Father Gobbi was an instrument of Our Lady. Father Gobbi might be the most important person in recent times for getting Our Lady's message out there. It sure is not the case that those who run the world want her message out. Many Catholics do not even know about Fatima, and if they do they just think 3 children saw her. That's the church leadership's fault, who since Pius XII have been more interested in speaking at the UN (none did before the "post conciliar" popes).

...

You may say "1997? that was forever ago. My grandfather wasn't even born before that!" OK, maybe so. But spiritual things work differently than we might otherwise think.

I don't know if this right, but the idea that the God of the bible "spoke" the world into existence some see as a unique creation account when compared to others. Bishop Robert Barron in recounting the ideas of Saint Thomas Aquinas talks about how this is a non-violent means of creation. When considering the means of overcoming the failings of the world as we transformed it (original sin, being dupped by satan, how ever you want to view it). So, there is the possibility that we will see both overt and obvious things in the physical world happen as she has warned us, but also inner and subtle changes that change us and how we deal with each other and God. I say both just because there are major changes coming to the Earth via the weakening magnetic field as it gets ready to flip (as the poles appear to be moving to converge at the core's protrusion near Indonesia). In the geologic record, these events always come with a great deal of "catastrophism". Evidence is getting stronger that the sun "micro-novas" when this happens and we get hit every way possible with everything that can happen ("comets", shockingly fast tectonic movement of plates on a suddenly less viscous mantle, mass extinction events, not a good time to had by all at all).

This is a prayer that may have been given previously but it was also given to Father Stephano Gobbi.

"Come, Holy Spirit! Come by means of the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Your well-beloved Spouse."

More on Father Gobbi can be found anywhere on the internet or under the post about his Marian Movement of Priests. He is a very important person in getting Our Lady's message out to the people, and the "Blue Army" of her devotees started because of his efforts.

Our Lady gave Bernardo, a guy would go on to become a priest (I think he was in the process of it when this happened) this prayer:

"Saint Mary of Victory, favorite daughter of God the Father, give me your faith. Mother of God the Son, give me your hope. Sacred spouse of God the Holy Spirit, give me your charity and cover us with your mantle."

It's worth noting that Father Gobbi who founded this movement of priests was also someone who received elocutions from our Lady concerning the meaning of the symbols in The Apocalypse (book of revelation for some reason protestants call it that, but the word means "Unveiling" as I understand it, which is very cool). How these match up with Bruno Cornacchiola and Our Lady of Revelation's description of the same book I still have to go through. Both in Italy, one I think in the fifties (Bruno is a CRAZY character. We need a movie made about him) and one from the seventies through eighties I think (Father Gobbi), both very revelatory.

2nd known Marian Apparition, and an Indian Marian apparition mosaic finds place in Nazareth church by FlippyKing in Hail_Mary

[–]FlippyKing[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Kuravilangad, in the Kottayam district of Kerala in southern India, is the site of the second known Marian apparition, that I can find. Some sources call it the first, and some of those sources date the apparition to 105 AD, but that seems inaccurate on both counts. The church there seems to date to 105 AD, and there is a long history of Christians in India which matches with the tradition that the apostle Thomas went there for his evangelizing. The best date for this apparition I find is 335 AD.

I remember a better source, in that it tells the story of the apparition better, and if I find it again I will add it here as comment.

Even if the 105 AD date is used, Our Lady of the Pillar is still earlier.

The 3rd Marian Apparition The Miracle of the Virgin Mary at the Church of Blachernae in Constantinople by FlippyKing in Hail_Mary

[–]FlippyKing[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The link above is to what I believe to be the 3rd Marian apparition (yesterday I posted it as the second, saying I thought there might be an earlier one. There does appear to be an earlier one, where I suspected it to be, in India.)

Though there were other people present in the church, only 2 are recorded as seeing her. This is not uncommon. We do not think of those who can't see her when she only appears to one person or to a few who all see her, but very often only the "seers" can see her. Off the top of my head, this is true for both Fatima and Garabandal.

One aspect of this that I think is important is that it is before the schism that divided east and west, and it occurred in the east (in terms of the Church). It certainly is similar in effect to Our Lady of Victory of Lepanto.

[–]FlippyKing[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Wow, first I have to thank you for reading it and then also thank you for asking.

It is a term used by Catholics. I think an analogous term would be to "have standing" in a legal sense, or to be barking up the right tree as opposed to the wrong tree.

So, what state we are in is very open-ended. It is very open-ended both in the most general senses and in this specific sense with regard to "grace". Being in a state of grace requires us to be honest with God about where we are in life with regard to our actions in the past (as best as we can really recall them), and with regard to our actions in the present which include our habits and patterns of behavior. It requires us to 'fess up our sins and to come to terms with their impact on ourselves and those around us and its impact on our relationship with God. We do not do this to come to God as an equal and look him in the eye or anything like we would with people around us. I think it is safe to say we should be humbled by it, and in humility seek forgiveness and help righting the ship to move in the right direction.

To the Catholics and to the Orthodox, and perhaps other denominations (I'm not up all the various protestant denominations), this requires going to confession with a priest, and if given a penance then doing that. Generally the penance is some prayers or specific things to meditate on-- but I understand in the past it was much tougher.

This is similar to the need to be honest when one is in therapy with the therapist. We can't expect to make progress in therapy if we're shifting blame for everything on to others with the therapist and never wondering why we keep putting ourselves in stupid situations. Similarly if one is a 12 step program, you have to be honest about what your triggers are and when you have a sponsor to be honest with them and do what they say (hoping they are a good sponsor). In a 12 step program you also have to try to make amends with those you hurt. This is not always asked of you by a priest, and sometimes is impossible for a number of reasons.

So, being in a state of grace would be the Catholic or Orthodox Christian version of being honest and working towards progress with a therapist in that situation or being honest and "working the program" in a 12 step program. A priest is not a therapist, and does not try to be one at least as far as I know. Instead the prayers and meditation and need to be honest with God might spur on the kind of change inside ourselves that could be analogous to what one hopes for with a therapist, and with the help and guidance of a priest (really the reassurances that God loves you, the Mother of God loves you, the Holy Trinity loves you, and they've cried along with you and felt the pains you felt along with you), you can feel assured of being in a state of grace.

My own opinion is, and since much of my perspective is coming from the simple fact that Mary at Fatima told us to pray the Rosary and I do not think she really cares what denomination one is when the start doing this, is if you are put off by going to a priest, then put it off. You have to want to do it. It is separate from doing what Mary wants us to do, I think anyway. Not being willing to own up to our own errors and sins and things we've done to hurt others either by doing or not doing something we should have done, that is a bigger obstacle to being in a state of grace than going through the motions. IF we do those things she asked us to do sincerely, we will go in the direction best for us I suspect.

Did that help? I hope it did.

The First Apparition of the Virgin Mary ever! Our Lady of the Pillar by FlippyKing in Hail_Mary

[–]FlippyKing[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The First apparition of Our Lady ocured before she was assumed into heaven.

You may say, "that's not fair! She obviously appeared to everyone around her back then. The local butcher did not experience an apparition when she when in about picked up a pork loin for dinner." You are right, that did not happen for two reasons. But, Our Lady of the Pillar is a bilocation event. It is a unique Marian apparition for that reason.

If I find a link to the cathedral/basilica's home page, I will place it the shrine's thread (and hopefully remember to then edit this comment to reflect that).

The context for them and the singing at the end is quite inspiring.

Prayer to St. Gabriel

Dear St. Gabriel, celestial ambassador of the Incarnation of the Divine Word, illuminate my intelligence so that I may know and understand the truths of our Catholic Faith. Erase all of my doubts that I might have in regards to God’s mercy and justice. Through the intercession of Our Lady of Good Success the Good Event of the Purification and Mother Mariana, please grant my request. Amen

St Gabriel pray for us!

Prayer to St. Michael

Dear St. Michael, celestial defender of the Faith, strengthen my weak heart and expand it that it might receive the abundance of divine grace. Secure in me the virtue of humility; help me to realize my unworthiness and ignorance so that I may be freed from any danger from the proud evil spirits who disobeying God hurled themselves from Heaven into the deep abyss. Through the intercession of Our Lady of Good Success the Good Event of the Purification and Mother Mariana please grant this request. Amen

St Michael pray for us!

Prayer to St. Raphael

Dear St. Raphael, celestial messenger from Heaven and remedy of Divine Love, cure my blindness of the mind so that I may believe in the Way, the Truth and the Life. Illuminate my mind and heart so that I may realize that in all of the sufferings and crosses that I may endure in this life, I receive graces and favors as Our Lord wishes to give me so that He may lead me on the pathway to Heaven. Through the intercession of Our Lady of Good Success the Good Event of the Purification and Mother Mariana, please grant this request. Amen

St Raphael pray for us!

Prayer to the Archangels Holy Princes and faithful messengers of the Sovereigns of Heaven, I thank thee for the lights with which thou hast illuminated my understanding and strengthened by heart and dissipated the blindness of my eyes. I, who am the least of all of the creatures that exist upon the earth, praise the Lord for all of the marvelous things He has done in me.

Dear Archangels, I, who am deserving of nothing, beseech thee, go now to Our Lord and Our Lady of Good Success the Good Event of the Purification and intercede for me, as this poor servant desires to prostrate himself before Them and submit to whatever they desire. As my heart and my entire being belongs to Them, may I, like a small drop of dew, lose myself in the immensity of the Divine Being. Amen.

Prayer to Our Lady of Good Success the Good Event of the Purification of Candlemas Day Our Lady of Good Success the Good Event of the Purification, Queen of Angels, sustain us in these ill-fated times of the Church. Grant us the perseverance in order to practice virtue only acquired by the wound of the relentless battle we fight under the most holy gaze of God.

Dear Mother, we implore you to give us the valor and strength needed so that we may not waiver in our faith nor forsake our vocation in this life. Grant that our tears which we shed in this life be gathered up by the Holy Angels and presented before the throne of God assuming an immense valor as they are united to the sufferings and tears of our dear Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Hail Most Holy Daughter of God the Father, pray for us. Hail Most Holy Mother of God the Son, pray for us. Hail Most Pure Spouse of the Holy Ghost, pray for us. Hail Most Holy Temple and Sacrarium of the Most Holy Trinity, pray for us.

Prayer to St. Francis of Assisi St Francis of Assisi, Seraphic Father who assists all souls who invoke you, intercede for me in these difficult times of spiritual hunger and emptiness. Pray to Our Lady of Good Success the Good Event of the Purification so that I may increase in virtue, bless and support me so that I may finally be found worthy to enter into Eternal Happiness. Amen

Salve Sancta Parens Hail, holy Mother, thou who didst bring forth the King who rules heaven and earth for ever and ever. My heart hath uttered a good word: I speak my works to the King. v. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Magnificat

My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my Spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior. Because He hath regarded the humility of His handmaid; for behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For He that is mighty has done great things to me; and holy is His Name. And His mercy is from generation to generations, to them that fear Him. He hath showed might in His arm; He hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart. He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble. He hath filled the hungry with good things and the rich he hath sent empty away. He hath received Israel His servant, being mindful of His mercy, As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed forever. Amen.

In addition to these prayers, Our Lady here showed Mariana the Divine Child of the Cross of Pichincha, which are mountains there. More about that aspect of the Apparition will be in that thread. I think I remember seeing a Novena to the Divine Child of the Cross of Pichincha, but I can't find it. Here are the words He said, a short Prayer, and some information. https://www.ourladyofgoodsuccess.com/pages/prayer-to-the-child-of-pichincha

"Divine Child of the Cross of Pichincha: have mercy on us." is a simple prayer, could be part of a Litany and could be used in the Jesus Prayer or in the Decade Prayer or the Pardon Prayer I imagine.

(Edited to change "good success" to the good event of the purification" because she wants it said that way and the sisters there where it happened are insistent that the bad translation is just bad and not just a bad translation.)

The prayers associated with Fatima include those given to Lucia when she was an adult and a nun along with those given to her and Jacinta (and Fransisco, but he could never hear Our Lady, well their Lady at the time I guess). They, and good context for them, are here:

https://slife.org/fatima-prayers/

The seven prayers are:

The Decade Prayer (said after each decade of the Rosary, but say it when ever you want. I say it along with the Orthodox's Jesus Prayer along with some others when preparing for (and after) the Eucharist) "O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell; lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need."

The Pardon Prayer (often said three times as the Children were asked to repeat it three times) "My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love Thee! I ask pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love Thee!"

Angel's Prayer: "O Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifference by which He is offended. By the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg the conversion of poor sinners."

The Offering Prayer (I think I've seen this called The Sacrifice Prayer): "O My Jesus, it is for love of Thee, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer this sacrifice to Thee."

The Trinitarian Prayer (I think I've seen this called The Eucharistic Prayer) "O Most Holy Trinity, I adore Thee; My God, My God, I love Thee in the Most Blessed Sacrament!"

The Salvation Prayer: "Sweet Heart of Mary, be the salvation of Russia, Spain, Portugal, Europe and the whole world."

The Conversion Prayer: "By Thy pure and Immaculate Conception, O Mary, obtain for me the conversion of Russia, Spain, Portugal, Europe and the whole world."

The first Saturday in November, please plan to keep it aside for Our Lady, mother of God. To prepare for it as she wishes, you'll have to be able to go to confession because that is required to receive communion. I could imagine a way to do this in other denominations (eastern Orthodox or protestant, other issues not withstanding).

Confession directly to God could be one approach for protestants who do not have the sacrament of confession/penance/reconciliation (different names for the same process). I should probably post a link about examination of conscience. It is something found on a lot of Catholic websites because for a Catholic who has not been to confession in a long time, the process should be thorough. But the process is good for anyone, not just Catholics. Taking stock of one's sins is important if one wants to live a better life in keeping with God's will.

Similarly, I should post a link to a prayer for "spiritual communion" for those who are not in a position to receive the sacrament either in a Roman Catholic or an Eastern Church, or ... I guess Lutherans have a sense of the Eucharist, but I do not know how they feel about devotion to Mary.

Quito, Ecuador: Our Lady of "Good Success" (probably better translated as "the Good Event of the Purification"). late 1500s.

The website, I don't know about. I am trying to use as diverse of options as I can. "Tradition, Family, and Property" are interesting terms. 30 years ago the idea that family as an institution was being attacked seemed silly to most. Since then we've had a steady and gradual progress from expanding ideas and a liberalization of views on it. I feel it started off nicely. Today though there are hospitals that will not release newborns to the mother if the mother is not vaccinated for covid. Who gets the baby then? Moloch? Baal? Property is a term with a weird history. We've lost the term "personal property" in fight between capitalists and communists over classifying everything as private or public property, but "public" means the state's property and not the people's property. This has nothing to do with Quito though, but it shows how there is no salvation and no real comfort to be found in worldly things or worldly authority.

This apparition might be foundation of these kinds of apparitions. Our Lady of the Pillar is older by a lot, but it is a very different sort. This ties directly into the subsequent apparitions, right on up to Father Gobbi. The foundation for them all though is the Book of Revelation or the Apocalypse.

I believe this is the official of who is called in English "Our Lady of Good Success" but I understand that is a bad translation. The better translation I understand to be: "Our Lady of the Good Event of the Purification". This, better, translation puts the events in Quito in their proper context with regard to the mosaic* made up of the many Marian apparitions including La Salette, Fatima, Garabanda, Tre Fontane (Our Lady of the Revelation), and her locutions to Father Gobbi.

These are just some of the Marian apparitions where she discusses tragedies that will (or, are now) befalling the church and the world, and they do fit together to give us a clear picture of what is going on in the world and in the church. the youtube channel Marian News has three videos about what happened at Quito in Ecuador. But this post is about the shrine. The link above is a Spanish language website. Here is an English language web page about a trip to the shrine.

https://sspx.org/en/news-events/news/pilgrimage-our-ladys-shrine-quito-7139

It is from the SSPX website, which some people might have a problem with. I do not think the SSPX was ever actually in schism, but that has more to do with the labyrinth of Catholic legalism and what Papal authority actually consist of and what it does not. In any event, Pope Benedict has straightened out what ever division there was separating the SSPX from Rome, and the SSPX has never to my knowledge saw themselves in schism with Rome. Francis has not taken any action against the SSPX that I know of, yet anyway.

This insider politics between church hierarchies can not be seen outside of the context of these Marian apparitions because she directly addresses both the idea of schisms and the ideas of many failures of Rome. The rule for a new order presented at La Salette should be seen as a way to heal the divisions after what has been called the great chastisment. I do not want to fall into the error of trying to discern the when or where of any of this, as we are warned against that in the Gospels, but being aware of what was told to the seers at these apparitions just seems to be something we all should do.

*(Sister Anne's term. She trying to build a new religious order according to the rule promulgated by Our Lady at La Salette. This new order will be on par with Carmelites, Dominicans, Fransicans, etc (I shudder to say Jesuits but ... nope, can't do it. Sorry) but that has nothing to do with this shrine).

What Our Lady asked us to do at Fatima by FlippyKing in Hail_Mary

[–]FlippyKing[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

With Fatima, I started with what she is asking us to do. The apparition and the miracle of the sun are amazing. The more you learn about what happened there, what other warnings and predictions she offered, and what the church ended up doing to Lucia, ... I don't know how you'll react.

When I learned enough about Fatima to believe it was a real event, I filed away in my head somewhere that I had to learn how to pray the Rosary. To call me a lapsed Catholic at that time was an understatement. It was not until decades later that I learned. As the link shows, it's not the only thing she asked of us but what she asked seems very doable. I'm glad I started.

Harp of Glory a long hymn to Mary by FlippyKing in Hail_Mary

[–]FlippyKing[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The link above is to a pdf from a journal article that talks about this amazing hymn to Mary. The Harp of Glory is from the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, so it is from an Oriental Orthodox church, but much of the ideas and I think a similar long hymn are found in the Eastern Orthodox tradition from Byzantium/Constantinople. Since these churches were schism'd out over a dispute concerning how people with perhaps too much time on their hands wanted to dissect a mystery of faith, the hymn is not as well known in the west as it should be.

To call it a hymn to belies the size of it. It is the size of a small novella, or an epic poem. The writer composed a set of verses for each letter of the alphabet-- I'm assuming the Ethiopian alphabet-- praising Mary. Nearly every line has a foot note showing where in the bible (the massive Ethiopian bible I'm assuming) the justification for the line comes from. It really is a beautiful composition, and I think anyone and everyone should try to get a copy to read a bit of it daily. It is really inspiring.

The link is to the Eastern Orthodox version of the Hail Mary. I do not know if the Coptic or other Oriental Orthodox churches use this.

Two versions of the Eastern Orthodox version are as follows:

Theotokos Virgin, rejoice, Mary full of grace, the Lord is with You. Blessed are You among women, and blessed is the fruit of Your womb, for You have borne the Savior of our souls.

And

Mother of God and Virgin, rejoice, Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, for thou hast given birth to the Saviour of our souls.

An Early Christian Prayer to Mary by FlippyKing in Hail_Mary

[–]FlippyKing[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

This long quote, a small portion of the article, states any point I would want to make about this:

This was not an individual prayer but a corporate prayer – the early Christians prayed to Mary in their Sunday worship! This prayer was translated into Latin and in the Latin tradition came to be known as “Sub Tuum Praesidium.” In the Orthodox tradition this prayer is sung during the Vespers service for Great Lent and is echoed in similar prayers in the daily prayers and the Sunday Liturgy. This points to the universality of this ancient prayer. In light of the Vincentian Canon – that which is believed everywhere, always, and by all — prayer to Mary the Theotokos is a catholic or universal Christian practice.

We learn from this papyrus that when early Christians gathered for worship they addressed Mary by the title “God Bearer” recognizing her role in the mystery of the Incarnation – Christ coming down from heaven and assuming human flesh for our salvation. Further, we learn that early Christians believed in praying to the saints and asking the saints to pray on their behalf.

I removed the "chat" box because I never used it and find it annoying when trying to post something. It's presence makes me scroll far down when posting links and giving the post a title. Maybe that's just me. If people actually like that feature, I guess I will put it back. But try it without for a bit.
