Thanks - I laughed out loud.

Narcissism 101:

1) Do or write something really awful.
2) Act like you've been misunderstood and claim to be the innocent victim when people call you out on it.
3) Cultivate sympathetic, reassuring, and validating responses from your rescuers/supporters.

If you really want to laugh, Kiwi Farms (so probably NSFW) has a thread collecting the insanity of Grace Lavery and his TiF and seemingly equally nuts wife/husband.

I googled Lavery, and pictures of his wedding to his obviously female "husband" popped up.

Here is a better link (I think) to the hilarious KiwiFarms' thread on Lavery and his wife/husband with many, many pics (probably NSFW!):

They seem like they would be absolutely exhausting to deal with.

Yeah, but like so many TiMs (Veronica Rachel, Zoey Bob, BruceLyn) a lot of fun to follow.

I find Grace very entertaining - the narcissism, the hyperbole, the entitlement, the DRAAAAAMA - as you (I think) said, he's a cross between Norma Desmond and Frank-N-Furter.

Ah shit, Mallory Ortberg is the new Dear Prudence! I never made that connection before. I used to like reading Dear Prudence, but it went downhill when she took over, and rapidly took on a perverted, kinky edge. I felt like I was reading Dan Savage's column. How do these people have jobs?

I found before and after trans photos of the couple telling; they looked so much happier and healthier in the before photo.

Mallory's story arc made me sad. It reads like she lost herself in a toxic and controlling relationship. Of course she is the one who gets sexually and publicly degraded in the relationship, but I am sure they tell themselves their relationship is so progressive and subversive because, in their minds, it is the "woman" dominating the "man." Despite wanting to "avoid dwindling into mere heterosexuality," it sounds like their relationship is treading the well-worn tropes of the dominant and promiscuous man and the woman who serves as his submissive wife.

It sounds like she comes from a controlling environment with a very controlling father.

equally nuts wife/husband

You've left me having to wonder whether this individual is simply married to a TiF, or whether they're in some sort of communal radical throuple.

My, how the suspense is palpable.

Kudos on the Tor - first time I've had to use "Open in New Private Window with Tor" on Brave.

I love KiwiFarms - the way those nerds dig deep into the madness is inspiring.

Sorry about the link - I don't think it's ever done that before.

Apparently my browser threw some weird link to KiwiFarms' Grace Lavery thread in there, so this one might work better, but is probably NSFW!

This man is utterly disgusting.

I had always heard Berkeley was a reputable university. I had heard it was on of the best in the country.

If they employ such a repugant and sadistic man, the university surely must have gone downhill in the last decade(s).

[–]JulienMayfair 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

It's a problem generally with Humanities Departments these days. I'm sure Berkeley is still good in science and technology and possibly some social sciences, but the humanities is in a race to see who can virtue-signal the most by hiring the most outrageous faculty. I'm sure Judith Butler helped since she is also at Berkeley.

[–]BEB[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

US science departments (well, at least one that I know of, and at a very prestigious university) are also embracing gender ideology. As are medical schools.

[–]BEB[S] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Many of the elite US universities have enthusiastically embraced this madness. I was shocked when I went to my reunion a few years ago - it was like I'd entered TransSylvania.

Berkeley is where it all (or at least a good part of it) started with Judith Butler, and she still teaches there.

How gender ideology went from one woman teaching at Berkeley and a few other philosophers/pundits/crazy people who came before and after her, to disrupting huge chunks of the world, and destroying the lives of countless women, children and parents, as well as many of the laws protecting women and gay men, and free speech/science, will be something that future researchers will no doubt puzzle over.

[–]JulienMayfair 6 insightful - 6 fun6 insightful - 5 fun7 insightful - 6 fun -  (4 children)

Why is it these people are always mugging for the camera like Frank-n-Furter from Rocky Horror or Norma Desmond from Sunset Boulevard?

[–]BEB[S] 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Another big question is why are these people, who would have been relegated to being raving, street-corner nutters in the past, receiving so much support from corporations, politicians, universities and social media?

Lavery's tweets gets hundreds, if not thousands of likes, and he seems like an obviously batshit narcissist - who is being suckered by this? What goes through their minds that they think this man is credible and deserves respect?

[–]whateverneverpine 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

It shuts women the fuck up, that's why.

[–]BEB[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

There are many women buying into gender ideology too: I have spoken with hundreds of people about gender ideology and the US Equality Act (which would enshrine gender ideology into federal law) and, in my experience, the most vicious and rude "Trans Women Are Women"-spouters are young women.

[–]QueenBread 8 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

This nutcase is a teacher. A TEACHER. My dream is to be a teacher, and I'm currently on my second college degree in the hope to achieve that dream.

But perhaps being a crazy mysoginist man spewing insanity on social media would've gotten me immediately hired, if I just wore a wig and mascara.

What is going on, are teachers now meant to be insane, stupid, abusive?

[–]BEB[S] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

He's a professor at one of the top universities in the US. And yes, I think at the current time, when it's Gender Ideology Uber Alles, it helps to be a "a crazy mysoginist man spewing insanity on social media" and wearing a "wig and mascara" would probably help you get a job.

I have lost a lot of respect for American teachers, not all, just the ones who seemed to be all in on the WOKE agenda and determined to shove it down kids' throats, free speech and critical thinking be damned.

[–]QueenBread 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

If THAT is what one of the top universities in the US has to offer, I'm not surprised the US is crumbling down.

[–]BEB[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, I think the indoctrination of US university students into gender ideology is either a sign or a driver of US decay.

I went to a highly-ranked US university and the last time I went back for reunion, I was shocked that my formerly leaning-conservative (but gay friendly) university was now uber-WOKE, with trans stuff all over campus.

Even some of the professors in the hard sciences (!!!) were spouting gender ideology talking points. I was profoundly dismayed.

[–]absoluteblasphemy 5 insightful - 5 fun5 insightful - 4 fun6 insightful - 5 fun -  (0 children)

If I threw holy water at these people they seem like they might start burning tbh.

[–]BEB[S] 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

So Grace Lavery's wife/husband, formerly Mallory Ortberg, who calls herself Daniel Lavery now, is the advice columnist, Dear Prudence, for Slate.

The jokes just write themselves...

[–]sallytomato 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I feel ignorant for asking but, is this actually possible? For a transwoman to have a donated uterus implanted in their body?

[–]ekb88 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

No, it’s not. If they could get a man to carry a pregnancy to term, there would be not one infertile woman on the planet. But they can’t. Carrying a child involves the whole of a woman’s body. Much is still unknown about it. It cannot be replicated. It’s disturbing how many people think it can be.

[–]Femaleisnthateful 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Those emojis burn my eyes. Seriously, projection much? Fetishize women's traumatic experience of unwanted pregnancy, then call the inevitable backlash 'hate'? I suspect someone at Lavery's place of employment advised him to lay off Twitter for a while.

I for one am happy to see misogynists like Lavery expose their truths to the world. I can't imagine why he thinks what he's doing is good PR.

[–]BEB[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

He got in trouble, was it last year? for advocating that Abigail Shrier's non-fiction book, IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE, about girls being sucked into the fad of thinking they're transgender, be burned. There was a lot of outrage, so I'm sure Berkeley was aware of the fracas.

But, as has been noted, Judith Butler is at Berkeley too, so the school is obviously doing its best to destroy its own reputation by fully embracing the madness of genderology.
