OP, you rock! It gives me great hope and happiness to see what smart young women like you are saying, and how you're holding your own with, and taking no shit from, ignoramuses like your friend. You write really well too, with verve, style and a distinctive voice - and humor. Good on/for you!

Also, what's with your friend's bellyaching about crying? There's no shame or harm in crying. No one ever died or got sick from crying. He's not gonna melt from it. Crying is emotionally and physically cathartic, in fact.

Crying is normal and of benefit regardless of sex, too. In fact, contrary to the claim that men aren't allowed to cry, the reality is that men have often been given far more license to cry in public than women, as the case of former USA Congressman and House Speaker John Boehner shows. Boehner's nickname was "The Weeper of the House": https://youtu.be/FyxioZZdiTg https://youtu.be/QQRFqD55Se0

My father, who was a US Navy bomber pilot in the Pacific in WW2, used to cry at the drop of a hat. In the 1960s, he'd start crying when the family watched "The Patty Duke Show" and Sally Field in the TV shows "Gidget" and "The Flying Nun." My young siblings and I, being thoroughly rotten and disrespectful kids, would hand him tissues and say "dear, dear, Dad, it's all right" whilst snorting, rolling our eyes and silently laughing our asses off...

I've done a whole lot of crying in my life. I've sobbed heavily, loudly and embarrassingly in all sorts of public places like on the NYC subway and the Metropolitan Museum and London's Royal Albert Hall. Nothing untoward happened as a result. And I've always been a really ugly crier too - lots of snot, my nose balloons in size, and my eyes swell up so much that decades ago one of my sisters said if a country song were ever to be written about me it would be called, "Been Cryin' So Long Need Ice Packs On My Eyes" LOL. But I'm still standing and can attest that all my crying has not injured or diminished me.

Ha..I found I would tear up at odd things after I became a dad. So would my partner , it might have been the sleep deprivation though lol. We had a 4 year old girl and twin baby boys. This young lad sounds very decent but prone to visceral reactions? Like he is still going through the adolescence mood swings. Only time will cure him , I'd say.

I'd be wary if I were you because men going on about how sensitive they are can be a red flag for abusive behaviour. I mean the whole performance he put in isn't normal. It could be him being an idiot but equally it could be an attempt at manipulation.

TERF just means trans-exclusionary rational female.

I've started asking people to explain the problem with terfy arguments without just saying "it's terfy" as a response.

This guy has some severe psychological problems, regardless of political views. Really severe problems.

TRA forums do their absolute best to keep you away from gender critical stuff, occasionally providing an out-of-context screenshot of a GC tweet or something, but rarely even providing that much.

Gender critical forums are absolutely full of links to and discussions of TRA stuff.

Makes you think...

Someone took Elizabeth Warren's list of dead transwomen and edited it with a section that included 'cause of death.' Revealingly, it showed that almost all the transwomen murdered were either killed by a boyfriend, a John (since many of them were prostitutes), or a drug buyer or dealer. Some of the causes of death were attributed to "gay panic," but many of them were reflective of the violence one encouters in the drugs/prostitution lifestyle.

I have yet to find a SINGLE example of a trans-exclusionary radical feminist murdering a transperson. But then I guess it's easier to scream at and blame all your problems on the historically powerless and disenfranchised class of women than it is to face the actual perpetrators, men.

The lack of critical thinking that goes on in the TRA bubble boggles my mind!

I hate to say this, but these days I find that many people who call themselves "liberal" are really just lazy, basement dwelling, video game playing incels who've done very little to improve their situation in life, and are mad because all the "rich" people won't give them more free shit. Was arguing with one on reddit the other day in a post about what a horrible terf jkr is, and a quick search through this guy's post history told me he's a former starbuck's barista who plays video games incessantly (not that there's anything wrong with that, i play them too) who did nothing but bitch about his boss. It was very apparent that he's just a lazy shmuck who had never even read what she actually said. Starbuck's has lots of good educational opportunities you can take advantage of which he clearly never did. For most of these "liberal" guys this is just a woke free pass for their lazy, basement dwelling asses to hate on women for no fucking reason, especially successful women who obviously put in the work to get where they are.

I have no patience for the hysterics/testerics from these trans people and their toxic allies.

just reading terf shit doesn't make you a terf. He was literally scared that he would be influenced by terfs, even as this lib person. Like if you are that easily influenced by shit, maybe you shouldn't be on the Internet at all.

Nope, not a cult at all.

They know "terf" arguments are persuasive to normal people, because they actually make sense. Insulating the followers from diverse opinions and repeating the thought-terminating cliches over and over are their only defense. Unfortunately it seems to work on a lot of wokies.
