I always thought muslims praying 5 times a day seemed fucking excessive. Even if you believe, can't you just like give god a mental high 5 throughout your day?

I liked that! Over the years, some of my dearest friends have been younger Muslim guys (weird, right!) and one totally dear friend is the son of an imam. No matter where we are, he has to wash his feet and do the whole ritual. He's done it in the national parks, at the beach, parking lots, on the hiking trail... It's like, WHY WHY WHY? I thought religion was about belief, but it seems to be all about practice and showing the world this non-stop in-your-face performance. Apparently they just repeat the same things over and over too. Rituals taken to the extreme are brainwashing -- change my mind! TWAW, Sex Work is Work, God is Great. All slogans on a loop.

Exactly, the repetitive rituals reek of brainwashing. They say the intention is to sort of do a regular spiritual realignment, but surely you could just take 3 deep breaths and focus for a few seconds or something? If you're doing it 5 times a day how fay off course could you possibly be getting? What, if you take your attention off god for more than 3 hours are you going to find yourself neck deep in an accidental cocaine orgy?
