I don't agree with the article. I think this falls along class lines. The UK has a strong working-class political culture and their "TERFs" are largely working-class and labour unionists. The Gender Ideologues are the sheltered, isolated middle class.

I'm an atheist. I used to hang out in the New Atheist movement in the early 2000s until I got sick of the sexism. That was before Gamergate. In the US, male atheists have HEAVILY drunk the Gender Ideologue kool-aid. They banned/ex-communicated Ophelia Benson from Free Thought Blogs. PZ Meyers and Orac have gone totally batshit "stop puberty"/"experiment on children with Lupron!". Interestingly I get the sense Dawkins is a TERF but he hasn't said so flat out.

I get the same vibe off Dawkins.

I hadn't considered how much class might play into this and I think you're right about it being a very relevant factor. I'm a Skeptic but not in the UK or the US so I didn't really have a feel for what those communities are like.

The Lupron thing is interesting though, I remember Skeptics being outraged about some quack using it to treat autism... But I guess now it's A-OK.

Here's the article about Lupron for autism from SBM: https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/chemical-castration-for-autism-after-three-years-the-mainstream-media-finally-notices/
