It saddens me to see what became of Stephen Colbert and John Oliver.

They seemed smart, rational and sane once upon a time.

Stephen Colbert used to be playing a character (who just happened to also be called Stephen Colbert) and I think having the shield of satire/not having to attribute his comedy to HIS personal beliefs is what made him such an incisive and iconoclastic commentator.

Stephen Colbert who now hosts Late Night, is "actually" Stephen Colbert. He no longer has the conceit of being a satire of a pundit, which forces him to personally back everything he says. I think this makes him less able to fully own saying things that others might agree with.

True, however my issue was more about the fact that both him and Oliver seemed like people who were a lot more interested in thinking and speaking up about how nonsensical certain things were than the kind of tools who just accepted and supported idiotic stuff because it's what they are supposed to do.

I wasn't expecting them to go full TERF, but sure as fuck I was expecting them to think and maybe be a little more neutral on many things. Instead they went full "right side of history".

Then again, I though the same of progressives/the left/feminists/LGBT organizations at the time.
