It makes me think of Dworkin's book Right Wing Women. Even if the ideology is harmful to women, women are socialized to not make waves and to seek protection from misogyny where it is offered. If women can just be "one of the good ones" then maybe they'll be protected from the worst men have to offer. In this case, being outspoken against men in women's bathrooms will get you insulted, de-platformed, threatened or worse.

The reason this gender narrative (and modern wokeness in general) is so toxic is because it uses women's drive to be inclusive and kind to strip women of their hard won advances while spreading their advocacy so thin as to be null.

It's a cult with terrible repercussions for 'heretics'. There is absolutely zero incentive for most of its members to see things differently. The only ones that will escape are those who aren't susceptible to a cult mentality in the first place, or those for whom the gaslighting and cognitive dissonance becomes so obvious and painful they wake up.

Part of it is definitely not wanting to be ostracized by the group. If you don't denounce, you're suspect.
