“Not actual stories. Bit parts as sex workers or the butt of jokes.”

False. True in the past (true for poc and lgb as well). Not true today.

“Very few trans stories that are actual stories get told and when they do it’s almost always being played by a man, which negates anything positive that could have come from it. I’d prefer no representation at all than trans women played by men.”

Fair enough about non trans males playing trans males- but my point was still that the stories of transwomen are told more frequently regardless of who plays the TW.

“iwould say Laverne isn’t more recognizable than Chaz, and I only know of Nikki because she was on that makeup show on Netflix.”

You would be wrong lol, you can look up the trends in online searches and coverage that they’ve both received. Guess who’s more searched and more covered (hint- not Chaz). and just because you don’t personally know of someone doesn’t mean they aren’t well known.

“My point is, you can’t act like there’s some grand glut of trans women representation because it’s not much more common than trans men of at all and even then it’s almost always negative.”

It’s true that TW have more media representation than transmen. It’s obviously true no matter how many times you say it’s not lol

“laverne cox’s character on Orange is the new Black is still a felon.”

Well, considering it’s a show about felons that’s to be expected. His character is still one of the most popular and loved characters so idk why you think the character’s felon status is relevant. If it were a different type of show, you’d maybe have a point but seeing as how it’s a show about PRISON, you don’t.

“How many trans women characters can you think of that aren’t criminals or sex workers and not played by men?”

As I said, the character being a felon is irrelevant. They chose to include trans representation, and made that character one of the most beloved on the show. And you’re still fucking complaining?! I acknowledged that the actors playing TW tend to be non trans, and again, my point is still that their stories are being told at all. This is not the case for transmen, even when non trans females are playing them. I’m not discussing the quality of the representation or even who is playing them- I’m saying that TW are shown (or trans women as characters) more than transmen.

And again- media is more than film and tv and it’s an obvious truth that TW are more prevalent across all forms of media.

Eta- after the rape stuff I can’t really engage with you atm so I’m done with this thread

You’re just wrong here. Insatiable had a joke trans woman sex worker character last year. That Bomer abomination Anything is from 2017. This isn’t a thing of the past.

Bad representation is worse than no representation. I’ve said as much already.

Insatiable did not have a joke TW. They had a TW come on and be applauded for being beautiful and brave. What planet do you live on?

Eta- nevermind. You’ve made me uncomfortable on the rape thread just leave me alone
