If you don't want your fetishes talked about in public, don't post pictures of yourself shitting in a diaper online while running for office. In our current society it's definitely not a smart move to be open about your fetish while running for any public office. Fetish shaming is still ubiquitous, which is the reason why the community is really tight knit and most sites actively warn about posting identifying pictures. I think that that's wrong, because what gets doesn't have any impact on how well you can do other stuff.

If the other stuff you're doing is designing policy and social structures, then it's not how well you do it, but to what end you are going to do it that's important. A person's vision of the best possible world, the interdependent support systems you hope to encourage, does make some difference when you're talking about politicians, I think. Community, family, trust, "it takes a village", versus every individual for themselves, do what you like on your own time and don't expect anything from one another, are pretty different attitudes, for example. How you live reflects your own expectations and hopes for the way society will develop, to some extent
