The irony here is that because the Pols still have thier antique coal burning furnaces they will stay warm this winter while western Europeans will be fighting off frostbite. How many years off thier lives will a harsh winter like that take?

There's a reason that installing a wood burning fireplace costs a fortune in the UK, it's a luxury. They will stay warm because that's the best way to heat a home in minutes when it gets to minus 25 Celsius outside in winter there.

That sucks.

What's wrong with that?

I get rid of tons of wastewood in my aga. Not enough to cook with mind you but it still heats the house for practically nothing.

So what? Americans have been doing that since the 70s. They are called resource recovery facilities and Jimmy Carter wisely and prudently brought them to the people. Glad to see his ideas catching on in Europe.

The people in power don't like it because it subverts thier energy war against Europe. The nuclear shutdowns, the move to unreliable solar and wind, the blowing up of the pipeline, it was all orchestrated. So of course they will use thier media to slander anyone who is well equipped to weather this storm. They don't want what works to spread.

Wow, they've really gone back in time to the dark ages.

Like 15 years ago or so.

Poland is rich in coal and they farm their wood, so it's cheap. In a country where income has never really caught up with cost of living, they do their best. The air there smells cleaner and fresher than here in our British towns as the country is less densely populated and is well forested. Burning rubbish and being warm in winter is better than being without gas and freezing.
