I don't like to brag, but what the fuck, I'm drunk.

The vocals on the Dadawa track I just shared reminded me of the vox from this song, a Tragically Hip cover, from the Oscar winning "The Sweet Hereafter", a movie I worked on. I was on the team that animated the school bus full of children sliding on the ice and sinking. I animated the ice bobbing - before dynamic simulations were abundantly available. Most of my animation was cut (works better for the story). I'd like to take full credit for the great production, but I was just an animator on a scene. I was bummed out when I finally saw the heavy movie in theatets a year later, even though it's a good one.

If you'd like more details or want to see another thing I worked on lemme know.

It's okay, but despite much potential, this version is not the best. The "Cure" sound is present, sounds great, but could have been better with more added flourishes to fill out what was Joy Division's minimalism. The vox are too low for Smith and the entire recording sounds muddy, almost like a live or demo version.

Can't Help Falling in Love - Lick the Tins (Elvis Presley, sorta) by JasonCarswell in Covers

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

"Can't Help Falling in Love" is a 1961 song recorded by American singer Elvis Presley for the album Blue Hawaii (1961). It was written by Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore, and George David Weiss and published by Gladys Music, Inc. The melody is based on "Plaisir d'amour", a popular French love song composed in 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini. The song was initially written for a woman as "Can't Help Falling in Love with Him", which explains the first and third line ending on "in" and "sin" rather than words rhyming with "you".

"Can't Help Falling in Love" was featured in Presley's 1961 film Blue Hawaii. During the following four decades, it has been recorded by numerous other artists, including Bob Dylan on his 1973 album Dylan, Tom Smothers, Swedish pop group A-Teens, and the British reggae group UB40, whose 1993 version topped the U.S. and UK charts.

...

Lick the Tins first released their version on a single in 1985 and included it on their 1986 album _Blind Man on a Flying Horse. It peaked at no. 42 and spent nine weeks on the UK Singles Chart that year. It was also used in the movie Some Kind of Wonderful._

I still have my Some Kind of Wonderful vinyl album and my tin whistle and at one time could play (poor to well depending on the day) along with this and a few other folksy tracks from other artists.

Obviously I love Iambic 5 Poetry, Port Rhombus, and Come On My Selector with the brilliant Chris Cunningham video.

One that doesn't get any acclaim that I know of, is one of my faves: Funki Porcini 'Carwreck (Squarepusher Mix)' (4:22). Very different than the source version with lots of abstract lite D&B jazzy noise that builds up, then it all kind of falls into glorious rhythmic place at @2:30 only to eventually kind of devolve again and come back with a brilliant conclusion. I'd like to see remixes of this remix.

Lorde:

Welcome to your life
There's no turning back
Even while we sleep
We will find you

Acting on your best behaviour
Turn your back on mother nature
Everybody wants to rule the world

It's my own design
It's my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help me make the most

Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do I'll be right behind you

So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world
Everybody wants to rule the world
Everybody wants to rule the world

TFF:

Welcome to your life
There's no turning back
Even while we sleep
We will find You acting on your best behavior
Turn your back on mother nature
Everybody wants to rule the world

It's my own desire
It's my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help me make the most Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do, I'll be right behind you
So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world

I can't stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world

Say that you'll never, never, never, need it
One headline, why believe it?
Everybody wants to rule the world

All for freedom and for pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
