How do you allow yourself to imagine such stories and then superimpose them on the world?

Look let's say it would take 100 years to rebuild Ukraine, using internal revenue and taxes.

Or they could rebuild in 20 years using external capital and enjoy the rebuilt infrastructure for the next 80 years of higher taxation.

It's a simple equation for any world leader. You don't need to imagine stories and pretend like they're real. There's enough of a sensible explanation to sufficiently explain events without resorting to your imagination
