Virginia and Maryland don't allude to the virgin Mary. Virginia was probably named in honor of Queen Elizabeth the first, and Maryland was certainly named in honor of Queen Henrietta Maria.

Gorillas have different vocalisations for different situations, but even at that level the low grunts that tell the troupe where everyone is aren't derived from a warning scream.
