EMP attacks are planned.

EMPs are NOTHING like they are in movies.

They are not tiny local events (ie. superpowers, within a building, a city block, or a city).

A disruptive EMP requires MASSIVE amounts of gamma rays from a solar flare, cosmic event, or a high atmospheric nuke and will cover a good portion of a continent. A nuke in the atmosphere over Mount Everest might knock out much of India AND China and completely destroy their infrastructure MUCH worse than the US is suffering now. Billions would starve and die and rebuilding their system would be very troublesome. I'm guessing, like the USA, they've also got a hardened infrastructure for their military and leadership to continue their control in the chaos - and of course could strike back.

I'm curious what it would do to satellites and space-stations, from near to far - or if it might be like a grenade in water (far more deadly than in air - if you're in the same medium). I'm guessing much less problematic than anything in the diffusing atmosphere - so the gamma rays would act like the light inverse square law and become much less critical the further away.

Yes, and?

Yeah I think it would take out a lot of satellites. I dunno, satellites don't need much shielding since mostly they're within the magnetic field. There might be very high orbit one that might use massive amounts though, who knows.

I been drinky. I've also been writing a hard-sci-fi story and I've considered adding a little EMP action just to add some unnecessary edutainment drama. There's already too much for the screenplay, but it could be good extra material for the novelization.

Imagine being on a space station and an EMP takes out all the electrics. Ruh-roh. Then, either you die or find a solution. I don't have a solution. So it's interesting, but not outstanding.

Yeah I don't have one either.
