It predicts what is likely to be the next word in the sentence. So it’s a statistical predictive engine
So it's not that different from a Markov chain generator. WTF.
I still suspect ChatGPT is, at some level, just a room full of furiously typing Indians. Google would probably say they "curate" or "moderate" the algorithm, but I don't buy it. Reminds me of the time IBM beat a chess grandmaster with a computer that somehow required a room full of other chess experts to operate.
