The thief was pretty ballsy to pull off that kind of crime where he actually put himself on the path of death. Why would he risk his life for a cellphone? The thief grabbed the phone and escaped to the other side as the train was just a few meters away. The owner of the phone was behind the thief by just a second or two and that's when the train squished him. I wonder if the owner didn't notice the train that was already close by or if the shock of having his phone taken blinded him as he was focused solely on chasing the thief.

I wonder how one can survive a sarin gas attack. From what I know, sarin gas affects your entire nervous system and causes your body to cramp up. Seems like a terrible way to die. You can't breathe and your body won't move. You're stuck there like a paralyzed fish until your life is over. Many of the people in the video are still alive, but probably already too late to save. The rescuers were just blasting them with water to remove sarin/contaminants or whatever they're called, but those people are definitely screwed.

Life can sometimes be too hard for certain people. You start out your life either in a good or a bad family and you learn how to survive from them. From a good family, you learn to earn what you need. From a bad family, you learn to earn by stealing. Sometimes, even if you're a naturally good person whether you come from a good or bad family, you are forced into a situation where you have to steal to survive, probably due to lack of education or desperation. But that doesn't excuse you from the consequences of stealing and making other people suffer. It doesn't matter for what reason you're stealing, in the end, you're hurting somebody else, and those people definitely have the right to defend themselves and their property and they have no obligation to save or help you.
It's rare to see someone who survives on crime transition into a more socially and mutually beneficial situation.

Man in Syria gets executed with a bayonet by LunaLovegood in WatchPeopleDie
I'm surprised the guy lasted long. I guess this shows how ineffective stabbing blades to the head are. The skull is probably smooth so whenever they tried to stab his head, the blade would either be redirected elsewhere or it would only make small cracks in the skull. It would definitely bring terrible pain to the victim. A blunt object, such as a hammer, would've been more effective in causing the skull to break and the brain to get crushed.
In zombie movies and shows, I always wonder how in the world their knives can just stab a zombie's skull without the blade either simply being ineffective or outright breaking.

I'm curious what death in outer space would be like. For example, if an astronaut was doing repair work on the ship outside, but suddenly, the spacesuit gets damaged or maybe the glass part of the helmet comes off accidentally. Would their heads really explode just like what cartoons and video games depict?
Ever watched one of those hydraulic press videos on youtube? What if instead of crushing paper or jelly and clay, they crushed humans? Will crushed human bones get launched and potentially break glass like highly compressed newspaper that explodes can?
I like revenge stories, so it would be interesting to see what would happen if a rape victim or someone whose family got murdered, catches the criminal and is given the tools of revenge. Will they go for torture or a quick death? Will they keep the criminal alive as a prisoner of torture? Skin the criminal alive and feed him his own skin?

Thanks for the recommendations! I'll go check them out.
I think what made me interested in these kinds of reactions in the first place was when I got into watching these fatal videos. I noticed that across countries and cultures, people seem to react the same way. Covering the mouth or eyes, turning away, raising the hand, holding the head, jumping, kneeling, pounding on the ground. As far as I know, society never forces us or teaches us on how to react to these shocking situations, yet people divided by cultures still act pretty much the same way. It's as if there's some kind of innate reaction to such sights. Anyway I hope to learn more from those books/articles/videos.

Wow that's terrible! Just how in the world can one mess up driving so bad that they practically launch themselves to the other side of the road?! What I hate the most is how the driver who killed the woman is unhurt even after her car was launched into the air due to driving too fast and then eventually crashing. Why is it like that in majority of videos where vehicles kill someone? It's always the one at fault who usually survives and the one who suffers are the innocent people around? It's unfair.
Anyway I really find the guy in red's reaction to the situation very interesting. At the 48 second mark, he tries to reach out and check if the jogger's still alive, but after realizing that death has already claimed another soul (with the help of an extremely incompetent driver), he just stretches his arms upward. I wonder why. Maybe the scene was too stressful for him and he needed to relieve some of the tension? The psychology and behavior of witnesses of terrible things is really interesting to me.

Yeah, that last ditch attempt to use one hand to reach the rope and probably loosen it was the point she probably couldn't handle the pain or whatever she felt.
I wonder what hanging by the neck feels like. That surely wasn't the instant death kind of hanging where the neck breaks. This one took a long time. Does it feel something like when you wake up from sleep and you somehow can't breathe (sleep apnea?). Or maybe it's similar in MMA where your opponent puts you on a chokehold and you lose consciousness. Hanging seems more painful though.

The truck didn't even bounce a lot like how it usually does whenever it crushes people. I guess the driver really didn't feel it, although I have to question how the driver didn't see the old lady. Anyway, isn't it not allowed for people to cross from where the old lady got crushed? There's no crosswalk visible. As a pedestrian, even if you "always" have the right of way, you can't just assume people will stop their vehicles for you, aside from the fact that you could cause potential accidents when vehicles try to avoid you and they crash into someone else. Crosswalks and traffic signals are there for a purpose, and that purpose is to at least make you cross the road safely.

What do you think about massacres without obvious reason? by Snow in WatchPeopleDie
[–]Oneda 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun - 21 days ago (0 children)
Personally, I think that people who commit mass murder do so as a form of stress relief. The kind of stress they have is usually emotional, not physical. Another factor could be their inability to accept that they are at fault for whatever is wrong in their life.
Take for example some of the recent mass shooters. A few of them had romantic problems. Some of them couldn't even have sex with people because they're that unlikeable. These people are now popularly called "involuntarily celibate" or "Incel". Incels are usually men who fail to get intimate with women. Sometimes they're simply unattractive. Sometimes they have extreme views on how women should behave, which women don't like. The incel thinks that he's a "good guy" and he "deserves" to be loved, and all women are suddenly bad or they're whores. He blames everyone and everything except himself for his failure to find love or even make friends, or hold a steady job. He starts truly believing that the world is at fault and he is the only one who is right, and so in an act of vengeance, he goes out to kill other people. He believes that other people are always successful and he's the only one who isn't, so this kind of pointless jealousy of other people's success in life is what eventually makes the incel kill random people.
I think deep down they know they're the ones really at fault, but they just don't have the guts to own up to the fact and they're unwilling to accept the truth or change for the better.

I agree, violent killers who commit mass shootings should just be eliminated. Well of course they need to get the right person first via evidence and trial, can't just kill the innocent while the killer gets to have a fun and beautiful life afterwards.
I do agree though that justice doesn't always seem to be properly served. Horrible people who rape, murder, torture, and do all sorts of nasty stuff can simply enjoy a life in prison and provided meals and "humane" conditions. I always question, WHY? Why should these types of people receive good treatment like that? Some homeless people even try to commit little crimes just so they'd be sent to jail and get to eat for a few days, then killers or rapists get to enjoy a relatively safe life until they die (or they get killed).
Mob justice without trial reminds me of what they do in Africa. They hunt down the rapist, and as we've all seen here on WPD, the suspect gets beaten up, stabbed, broken, humiliated, until finally somebody throws a tire to hold him down and someone pours lighter fluid and sets him on fire. Sometimes they get the wrong person and kill an innocent man. Check out this documentary called "My Neighbor the Rapist", very interesting.

Getting buried alive probably hurts. You would involuntarily breathe in dirt particles in an attempt to take in as much oxygen as you can, but the dirt would probably get trapped bit by bit inside your lungs.
If they really wanted to torture the guy, they would do it very slowly, not all at once. Centimeter by centimeter around the guy. Little by little as the dirt rises up to his nose. Give him a very small space to be able to breathe, then add a little more dirt.

Post your empathy quotient here by Snow in WatchPeopleDie
I got 41. I think tests like this one simply state who you already are (or who you want to appear as, if you pick the "correct" answers depending on what type of person you want to be viewed as).
Empathy, being able to feel what another person feels. No, when I see someone in pain or crying, I do not really feel as strongly as they do. When I see a guy get his balls kicked or attacked, it might make me cringe a little, so that's definitely a sign I can simulate in my head the pain they're probably going through. When I see a video here of a person getting shot to death, I don't feel anything at all, probably because I haven't been shot before.
Does being empathic make one a good person? I don't think so. So what if a person can feel what others feel? What if a person cries if they see a person crying? Just because they can feel the same as others doesn't mean they're good. For example, in the ball attacking/kicking scenario, although I might cringe and probably imagine what my balls would feel like if I was the one attacked, that doesn't mean I don't find it funny. That doesn't mean I won't laugh if I saw somebody in real life get his balls kicked by an angry woman. Or let's take a criminal for example. A lady who scams the elderly out of money. She definitely knows how people getting scammed would feel like, but she simply doesn't care. She'll still scam people despite knowing the kind of pain she'll inflict on others.
Personally, I think empathy is both a weakness and a strength. I say it's a weakness when it's too powerful. I know people in real life who would actually cry just because they saw a sad story in the news. They'd cry and be bothered by it the whole day, unable to do their jobs properly. They'd feel stressed about it. I also think it's a strength, if you are not affected by it that much. For example, in business or anything that requires strategy, if you know how people will react to something, like for example, a business proposal you've come up, then you can plan accordingly and use their emotions to benefit you. If you know they are the types of people you can pressure into saying yes, then you keep pushing your proposal aggressively until they succumb. If you know they're the types of people who are strong and not susceptible to pressure, then you would revise your plan accordingly.
Anyway since this is WPD where we watch random people die in all sorts of horrible manner, I imagine most of us here don't have very high levels of empathy. Most of us are probably people who don't get affected that much emotionally by terrible things. People who are too empathic would probably be scared to even watch a single video or look at a static picture of a dead person. They'll probably think it's a "strong image" and be haunted by it for days to come, when to us it's just an every day thing that immediately leaves our minds the moment we click on another link on the internet.
Athens, GA suicide by police. Man with knife charges officer, gets gunned down. 2 great angles, gore is blur censored, INCREDIBLY visceral footage. by shoopdawoop in WatchPeopleDie
I think what the cops did was the best they could. Other cops probably wouldn't walk back that far to give the suicidal guy a LOT of chances to stop. I've seen videos where the cops tell someone to drop the weapon but the guy doesn't and instead, moves forward towards them at the same pace this guy was going, and then the next thing you know, guy's dead on the ground full of bullet holes. The cops in this video really gave this guy a chance to live.
As for aiming for the legs or the arms, moving targets are not easy to hit, whether or not you're a trained shooter. Moving targets at ranges don't have weapons, and they certainly aren't advancing towards you in random ways with the intent to kill you. Being faced with an actual human being or animal that wants to harm you is different than standing behind a counter of a shooting range while shooting at a target that moves slow and steady.
Another problem with aiming for smaller targets such as legs and arms or the head, is that if you miss, there's a chance your bullet will hit someone else. I think this is also another reason as to why the cops really pulled back that much away from the residential area. If they started shooting, they could have shot an innocent person somewhere there.
Sometimes I wonder what would happen if cartoon style weapons were employed for use. For example, those bazookas that shoot out nets to capture characters in cartoons, bugs bunny style! Or some kind of hose that shoots out sticky material that can stop any human quickly. Maybe there's a reason as to why those types of weapons or capture devices are not used. Maybe they're unrealistic or ineffective in real life if they ever experimented with those.
In the end, real life is not an action movie. No cop has perfect aim. If someone is rushing towards them with a knife or other deadly weapon, then they definitely have the right to shoot that guy. If that crazy guy reached an area with more innocent people, then more people could get hurt, not just by the criminal, but also by their own bullets. That's why I side with the cops.

I wonder what caused that explosion or pressure release. Looked like instant kill, just like what happens when somebody gets shot in the head.
Well, that's a great example of death coming for you with no warning. You're in a supposedly safe environment where everything's controlled, yet you die because of that one little chance of something going wrong, definitely going wrong.
Think about that man's entire life. His childhood, all of his experiences growing up, how he changed, maybe he had some flaws he fixed to improve himself as a person, studied hard to learn something to be able to hold a job, and then everything ends just like that. POP! You're gone, your existence, your past, your future, it all ends there. You're nothing but somebody's memory and you never even saw this moment coming.

I wonder why they had to pull out his intestines first. If they're gonna torture the guy, shouldn't they have started somewhere that wouldn't kill the guy quickly? Also, if they're sadists, why did they bind the guy's mouth? They can't hear the guy scream in fear and agony like that. I wonder if there's a murder where the guy got hanged by his own intestines.

I slipped in the pool and couldn't get up and I felt like I was drowning. My first instinct was to grab on to whatever leg I saw wiggling above me lol! Yeah, drowning people, those who don't know how to swim or those who are just fearful, will just grab whatever's nearby.

Yeah, it's terrible!
I grew up back in the 80s and 90s and we never had those kinds of drills. I don't even remember fire drills (or maybe my school was just being cheap lol!).
I miss the days when kids would have problems, they'd fight it out in the yard, bare knuckled. Whether you're a bully or a good kid, you either managed to talk things out or you managed to assert yourself on the bullies to make them stop picking on you. Nowadays, if somebody has a problem, they can just grab a gun and start shooting innocent people at school or in public.
I think part of the reason for this is how people are being taught to just not fight back when being bullied. I keep hearing stories nowadays where if a bullied kid fights back, he gets the same punishment as the bully. I think that's so unfair and it teaches people that fighting back is just as bad as being a bully. It's so frustrating. You suddenly end up thinking that there's no justice in this world, so you get deeper into a very dark place in your mind until you get pushed into the idea that "If I can't be happy, if I can't fight back, if only certain people can be normal and happy, then I'll just go ahead and kill random people!" Definitely a messed up way of thinking if the person is sane, definitely extreme if they had mental issues right at the very beginning.
I really believe that it's important to allow people to defend themselves and fight back against bullies. The more you try to turn them into cowering sheep, the more the natural human instinct to fight back becomes violent. Those who can't control the rage within them will have great potential to become mass killers. We don't want a society of victims who either end up dead or becoming criminals themselves, we need to bring back a society that can defend itself without fear of being treated the same way as the bully or the criminal.

That shooter really pisses me off. Too bad he committed suicide in jail. He just ran around and killed people for no reason at all. They were saying he's supposed to be some kind of mentally ill person and they were gonna use that to defend him. What the hell?! Being mentally ill shouldn't be an excuse for mass murderers or dangerous criminals. I don't believe those types of people could be rehabilitated or "fixed". They're not the normal type of mentally ill person who can still be peaceful.
You know, after watching a lot of these mass shooting videos, I observed that people who hide or stay in place are the ones who always get killed. Rarely do the shooters just run past them. The worst is when you curl up into a ball, you definitely become a tempting target for the shooter to go for because of how defenseless you are.
I think anyone would also get scared and just run as a first instinct when it comes to situations like this, no matter how strong of a person you believe you are, but then again, I also wonder what would happen if people actually fought back instead of just cowering in a corner. Whether people run away or they rush and beat or kill the shit out of the shooter, someone's bound to get hurt or killed. Not everyone is a fighter though, especially the old grannies or grandpas, or the little kids or the teens, but I do think that aggressive action towards the shooter would've rattled him or even could've opened up the chance to stop/kill him.
This reminds me of that guy who shot a mosque in New Zealand I think. I watched the video and there was this one brave guy who actually managed to fight back against the shooter and even take him down to the ground. Unfortunately, nobody helped the brave man. The shooter got lucky and managed to regain his gun and he shot the guy. Then he proceeded to shoot 20 or 30+ people who were just all cowering in a corner. They were honestly, sadly too overwhelmed with fear to do anything or even try to run. Just one shooter, 20 or 30+ people, nobody else did anything to fight back or survive. One guy managed to take down the shooter but nobody helped, so the guy died and they all got shot to hell.
Real life isn't like in the movies where it only takes one heroic guy to save the day. I think that if even just one more extra person helped hold down the shooter and beat him up, there wouldn't have been an entire group of people dead that day.
Here in the US, the first thing schools (and offices) teach people when a shooter pops up is to huddle together and hide in a room. Honestly, I don't think that's such a good idea. So you have a bunch of people grouped together, too scared to do anything, and all they have between them and the shooter is a door. The door can easily be opened by the shooter just by shooting the doorknob. What then? I think this is why a lot of people die during mass shooting events. Everyone's taught to just hide and cower in fear. Nobody wants to face the fact that this is a mass shooting event, lots of people are definitely gonna die. So why just hide and wait for your turn to get shot and not fight back? If you're gonna die, might as well die fighting for your life and other people, especially if the shooter already barged into your room. There will be casualties, but I think it would be way less if people ganged up on a shooter, especially when he's reloading his weapon or unaware.
Definitely easier said that done, but that's why there needs to be training, both mental and physical, to deal with mass shooters. We can't just tell people "Ok when a shooter shows up, rush him and beat the shit out of him or kill him!" and expect them to do so. They need to overcome fear. They need to overcome their hesitation to dish out violence on another human being. They need to accept that they might die that day. They can choose though. Die while hiding or die while fighting. If you just hide, your hiding place better be a top secret location that even the police won't find, otherwise, you're just delaying your death by a few seconds or minutes because the shooter won't be stopped by simple doors. If you fight with the help of other people, you might actually prevent the deaths of many people.
Anyway, dealing with mass shooters is really something that "experts" need to look into more. They're so common now! It's already part of our "normal" life or culture and I think it's time people accepted that reality and we prepare for the eventual asshole shooter.

What the hell was that kid thinking? Based on the video, the moment the kid started dashing on the road, the truck was already there, no time for it to brake to avoid squishing that kid. The kid also didn't seem to look both ways before attempting to dash across the street and only noticed the bigass truck when he was already a second away from getting smashed. Kid tried to swerve to his right, but of course that did nothing for a truck that was going straight. The truck driver did his best to brake, but since the truck's too big, it was impossible to make it stop in time, considering the sudden appearance of the kid at the last moment. I hope the truck driver doesn't get punished for this because this was definitely not his fault.

I agree. I hate how in this world, the idea of "justice" (or "legal justice") seems to always be about taking care of the already proven criminal, no matter what kind of horrific crime they did. Rape, murder, extremely selfish acts, and they just get sent to jail for a couple of years, get fed proper meals each day. Always "reform" the criminal, even the multiple-time rapist (who goes free then rapes another person). It's as if humanity is trying to reach some kind of moral high when in reality, we all know too well what our natural instinct dictates.
I've always believed that revenge is a natural part of humanity. It's only suppressed because if we do keep on performing revenge, we'd probably end up wiping out the entire human race because of the things we do to each other. Still, I believe that if someone does something truly terrible to you then you (or your family) have the right to get back at them.
Criminals like that one in the video deserve to have their stomach split open, filled with acid, then coated with honey before dumping red ants in it. Then shoot him right in front of his family or friends like what this guy did to the girl.
