Rooftop Solar Power Has a Dark Side by [deleted] in technology

Hah. They don't even touch on some of the really dark things about solar that no one mentions.

Like that fireman will let your building burn rather than risk electrocution (you can't cut the power between each panel...so there's always juice flowing up there).

Or that the weight of snow on panels placed on already overloaded roofs can cause said roofs to collapse.

Or that those panels have to be cleaned periodically. When's the last time you cleaned something on your roof? Can you even get up there?

When no funding legislation is enacted, federal agencies must stop all nonessential work

Good. Our government should only be doing essential work (and spending OUR money to do so) in the first place.

We shouldn't be forced to fund non-essential work in order to fund the essential stuff either.

It's time to reign in our government and begin a return to what it was intended to be by the founders. It wasn't meant to be our surrogate parent. It wasn't meant to be our bank, loan officer, health care manager, etc. What was it meant to be and do? That can be found in a handy document called "The Constitution."

Rather than pointing out the glaring errors/assumptions in your calculations, I'll just point out that debt eventually has to be repayed and, therefore, the assets purchased with that debt are always at risk.

I own MY assets free and clear. No worries about having to make ever increasing monthly payments on them, ever increasing interest rates putting paying off those debts further out of reach, and so on.

So, yes, I'll have fun saving and enjoy the peace of mind that goes along with it. May your strategy do the same for you.

If you're not going into insane debt, then you're losing money.

No, if you're going into insane debt instead of saving, paying down your existing debt, and refraining from incurring more debt, you're losing far more than you would if you simply have savings that depreciate due to inflation.

Have fun saving.

Oh, I do and will. But you have fun trying to pay off that insane debt with ever increasing interest/monthly payments with money that's ever decreasing in value.

The reason the government has a debt problem is that its citizens have a debt problem.

Most have no idea what a savings account is, or if they do, it has a pittance in it. But credit cards near or at their limits to which they make minimum payments every month? Ah, they know them well.

So...hold their government to strict borrowing and spending limits? Not when they have no concept of doing it for themselves.

This is absolutely hilarious. Apparently, no one knows what "savings" is anymore. Save money for things you need (or may need on a rainy day)? Nah. Just borrow the money at an absurd interest rate and make minimum payments each month.

Doesn't matter if you make $15,000 a year or $150,000. If you don't know how to exercise restraint in spending and prudence in SAVING, you're going to have a bad time.

Is it a good idea to stand up for yourself over small things against Africans, Hispanics, Arabs, and other low-IQ and extremely aggressive nonwhite groups? by 8thmonitor in AskSaidIt

Did you know that in any group of individuals, no matter what race, color, nationality, etc, there are troublemakers who are looked down upon by the rest?

When I was in school, most of the kids were of a different color (and religion) than me. Most of the time, I had no problems. Once or twice, a few individuals tried to make trouble with me. They were quickly put in their place by their fellows.

Why? Because their fellows and I were connected on a level that supercedes race, color, nationality, religion, etc. We were the ones who knew what school was for, how it was going to help us get to the good places in life, and so on. We knew that the troublemakers, if left unchecked, would interfere with all that. And that simply would not stand. So, we all had each other's backs when it came to dealing with them.

Son, the longer you're on this planet, the more you'll see that it's not a matter of genetics, low IQ, or whatever. It's a matter of the environment you're raised in and what it stresses as important. There are plenty of Africans, Hispanics, Arabs and other nonwhites who are highly stable, peaceful, and intelligent. You just see and hear more about those who aren't.

This smells awfully like a planned distraction. A ploy to give certain people hope and, hopefully, embolden them just enough to lure them out into the open.

Even if legitimate, the "mutiners" aren't a big improvement over those in power. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

Bonus tip: While everyone else is riveted on this action on the stage, tear your gaze away for a moment. Scan the audience. See that big player, sitting quietly in the shadows in the back of the theater, watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to pounce? Problem is that, despite the insane amount of humidity they were experiencing, the amount of moisture in the underlying brush is insanely low. Literally a bone dry tinderbox waiting for a spark.

It's that way around where I live, too. Saw a brush fire erupt seemingly out of nowhere just around the corner from my home. Piece of glass with sun shining at just the right angle on top of mulch equals ignition. Doesn't take much in these conditions.
