GOP's 'Fiscal Vandalism and Political Sabotage' Prompts Second-Ever US Credit Downgrade:Republicans were warned that their repeated brinksmanship and deficit-funded tax giveaways for the wealthy and big corporations would have consequences by bananahammock in politics

The article and the financial situation in the US is not managed by its President. Congress and the Federal Reserve are responsible for the US budget, interest rate, and debt. Trump era tax cuts primarily for the wealthy (by the Republican-led congress) were funded with borrowed money (from China), to the tune of almost $10 trillion by the time Biden took office. Let me know if you have questions about any specific points in the article.

There have been improvements in the US economy, wich is why Republicans aren't mentioning it. Congress determines the budget. This is exactly what's wrong with Saidit.

You both just repeat propaganda because that's what you get from your 'news' sources and you will engage in mental gymnastics to justify anything that doesn't fit your preconceived notions. It is utterly pointless to argue with you.

As usual - you've "lost your shit" with this attack, which is also a weak argument, and certainly no evidence is provided to support the baseless argument. You also cannot generalize about all news sources that "engage in mental gymnastics to justify...." It's just an empty accusation and attack. There is absolutely nothing here to discuss or to argue with because you've merely provided a baseless attack.

I think y'all are losing overall though.

Another baseless attack and a false generalization about me and another user.

Reddit is dead af these days.

Another baseless attack, in this case with an obviously false claim about a website with 1.7 billion visitors in April '22, and again in April '23. Here's your evidence: https://www.statista.com/statistics/443332/reddit-monthly-visitors/

Twitter is a free speech alternative to the legacy media that feeds you your lines.

Another baseless attack and false statement, as Twitter is currently in transition to include much more far right material (as we know), and certainly does not "feed" any of my "lines". Twitter is becomming a disinformation propaganda network for the wealthiest clients. (AKA "free speech" for those who pay to use it for disinformaiton propaganda; NOT free speech for the rest of us.) It's becomming a sewer of disinformation: https://foreignpolicy.com/2023/07/15/elon-musk-twitter-blue-checks-verification-disinformation-propaganda-russia-china-trust-safety

It's cool for kids to be conservative for the first time I can ever remember.

This isn't an argument because it's way off topic. (We're not discussing kids or conservatives.) Moreover, think for a second how far right media about the importance of being selfish, of being allowed to break laws if people support you, of attacks on people who don't look like you, of living like you're in a video game, of the cultural infantalist flood of entertainment media appeals to children. It doesn't take a mental heavyweight to understand how much the GOP base is often interested in this selfish, stupid, childish disinformation propaganda. We read it daily on Saidit, and there are only 3 or 4 users here who question that disinformation.

Suck a fat one....

In a phrase, that's the only type of response any reasonable person usually gets at Saidit.

He generously offers - point-by-point - good arguments and evidence, unlike 99% of Saiditors who - especially for political posts - have nothing but child-like criticism, without good arguments or evidence. Phooey would often take the time to develop thoughtful arguments and evidence. RIP. I honestly don't know why /u/ActuallyNot bothers to visit Saidit, though I can somewhat relate to a user who likes to argue with brainwashed fascists in /s/politics. In my case it helps to see what the latest fascist trends are and how one might try to deal with them. But I don't have ActuallyNot's patience and rarely bother to respond to users these days. And when I recently had normal review comments on the Barbie movie review I was nonetheless attacked by schizos.

Part of the GOP process of wiping out the middle class: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/two-years-after-trumps-tax-reform-the-middle-class-is-struggling

When Joe Biden was sworn in as President of the United States on 20 January 2021, the U.S. national debt stood at $28 trillion. The Trump tax cuts contribution to that debt was around $10 trillion.

Republicans for Trump or the GOP nominee: 100%, 75 million

Democrat votes for RFK Jr: 20%, 17 million

Democrat votes for Biden: 80%, 68 million

A $5 million investment in RFK Jr is worth another $10 trillion in GOP tax cuts for the wealthy, while they continue to cut Social Security, Healthcare, Environmental, Education, IRS, etc, etc, funding.

If you ever doubted celebs have handlers - Jamie Foxx admitted Oprah was his by jet199 in Entertainment

[–]bananahammock 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I've been in a room as the only white person among a dozen famous African Americans while they supported one of their own in preparation for an important occasion. Foxx is telling fellow blacks in that video that a community of famous black actors (and 2 or 3 Oscar winners) helped him understand the socio-political process because they wanted a black person to get the Oscar, for a worthy performance. This is an old network, evidence of which is especially in the largest number of blacks nominated for Oscars in 2016, when Jada Pinkett Smith protested the lack of "diversity" in the nominations (I think it was one of the worst years for the Oscars).

Studios enter their movies for possible nomination (as you know) and substantially improve their profits when one of their own gets an Oscar. They'd certainly want to offer advice, though Foxx doesn't mention it.

Perhaps I'm merely arguing about semantics, and I could be wrong, but the word 'handler' seems to me somewhat cynical in this context.

She, Quincy Jones and Sidney Poitier obviously helped him significantly, and it's impressive to hear Foxx admit the importance of that support. Oprah's not really a 'handler' in this context. One would expect the studio and producers to appropriately advise their nominees, which it seems was not appropriately forthcoming for Foxx.

It's a conflation of gender assigned at birth and gender identity. Gender: refers to a person's sense of being as male, female, or somewhere in between or neither. Gender affirmation: the process of adopting a gender that best defines the person regardless of their sex assigned at birth.

I doubt there will be much of a dent in their 430 million active monthly user base, most of whom may not know much about the purpose of the strike. But this is a very interesting time for Reddit that - ideally - should cost them users and - ideally - get them to think much more about how they've fucked up with the layoffs, other restrictions and incredibly greedy API pricing ("Imgur charges him $166 for 50 million calls compared to Reddit's now-$12,000"). Traffic disruption was likely bot-related, for reasons noted below, where there are much better explanations of why the strike has been necesary:
