The word "woke" was created by intersectional fourth wave feminist Bell Hooks. It started out as I stated: "to be aware 'they' are against you." Only the "they" were "Whitey" at the time, and the 'conservative' police state. It changed into meaning "social justice minded" around 2016 during Trump's first presidential run, and became a household name around 2019 or so when Hollywood started making shitty girl-boss movies like Captain Marvel.

The irony is that the original meaning of the word "woke" is now a right-leaning concept, now known as being "red-pilled." To be red-pilled is the right-wing equivalent of what woke originally meant 13 years ago. Only now, the liberals are the ones in power, so it's seen as a "bad" thing. It is 100% Marxist propaganda nowadays; it just didn't start out that way.

This is really spoken like someone who doesn't know any liberals. Let me help clue you in about how the word is perceived amongst the left-wing public.

First, only Millennials have ever used the word to self-identity. Left-leaning Boomers, X-ers, and Zoomers never used it. It was very much a Tumblr/Reddit phenomenon. Which means that unless the person you're talking to is about 35, they won't recognize it as anything but some random slur Ron DeSantis made up

Second, fewer than one percent of people who identify as left-wing have one flying fuck to give about Karl Marx, some centuries-dead philosopher who once predicted incorrectly that factory workers would one day overthrow the factory owners and run the factories collectively. Almost everyone recognizes it as an Industrial-Revolution philosophy with no relevance to modern economic or social issues.

Uh, no. Your assumption is wrong again. I'm not only from a super-liberal East Coast city with relatives (not "family" but relatives) who are super-liberal to the point of almost being woke, but up until 2015, I actually used to be a Liberal. You know, before they became fascist dipshits who talk about "victimhood" and "fighting the good fight" against innocent conservatives and rational people while being millionaires protected by the government, establishment media, Silicon Valley, Hollywood, and the largest corporation on Earth, Blackrock. I know modern-day Liberals and I can't fucking stand them. (And no, I'm not a Conservative; they're sometimes just as stupid as the left with their religious dogma and pro-Life bullshit.)

And why are you bringing up Millennials? I never even argued against this point or brought up ages. I don't even disagree with that point. It is very much a Millennial buzzword.

You seem to be confusing traditional Marxism with modern Identity Politics, even though woke culture is literally rooted in Marxism. If anything, you can call it Neo-Marxism, if you prefer. I just left the gym and don't want to spend 30 minutes explaining all the minutia of identity politics Marxism, aka wokeness, so I'm just going to link you to a few relatively recent videos to explain it. Let me "clue you in" on it.

We have fairly similar stories. I identified as liberal until 2014, when I noticed a sudden seismic shift in the left wing and realized it had left me behind. And now I reject partisan politics entirely.

The fact that we have such similar stories makes me baffled as to why you believe this guy is insightful while I immediately identify him as full of shit:

He correctly reports that Karl Marx wrote that human history is about class struggle - about the tension between those with resources and those who have to work for a tiny slice of those resources. All the way back to the pharaohs and the artisans who had to build their tombs.

But then he takes this crazy turn out of nowhere and insists that that means that any conflict between two groups is therefore Marxist.

So... France versus Germany? Marxist.

Tory vs. Labour? Marxist.

Raiders vs. Giants? Marxist.

Gay vs. Straight? Marxist.

And frankly, this conclusion is stupid. It is mega fucking stupid.

I remember our conversation from before. You said how you're into cuckolding and doing... "something" physical with lesbians; typically old ones near or over 40, and how actual straight women (biological women who'd actually want anything to do with men) and women who want actual relationships doesn't appeal to you. That grosses me out on a visceral level and I find it extremely emasculating. So no; we're nothing similar.

[He] insists that that means that any conflict between two groups is therefore Marxist.

I don't think that was the actual argument, as I don't think that was said at all. I think you're strawmanning. Either way, what about the other two videos? The whole point is that it's all about class warfare and "oppressors versus oppressed" and that the woke sees everything in victim vs privilege status, and instead of actual unity, they just want to become the new oppressors (and in some circles, like Hollywood, already have been for years.) That's the entire basis of Marxism.

I've been on the internet long enough to know not to waste too much time on someone who can't, or doesn't, want to have their mind changed, but that's the gist of it. Oppressed vs Oppressor, and seizing the so-called "power" from the oppressor, to "uplift" the oppressed. That's about as much as I feel like explaining it, cause it's not hard to Google the rest yourself and I'm tired right now.

Nah, I'm not into cuckolding. I'm polyamorous. Meaning I have three partners. And yeah, they're bisexual. Spoooooky scary bisexuals.

We're raising an eight year old child together. We own a house together. I'd say it's a real relationship.

I don't think that was the actual argument, as I don't think that was said at all. I think you're strawmanning

It was the actual argument. He said "See? Marxism is about conflict between groups! CRT is about conflict between groups! Therefore CRT IS MARXISM."

Which is the exact same logic as "humans have cells; trees have cells; therefore humans are trees."

Marx was concerned about how people born into property exploit the labor of people who aren't. He didn't write about race. He wasn't American. He certainly didn't give a shit about whether racism could be baked into an institution in ways that presented themselves decades later even in the absence of personal racial antipathy.

But, hey. Trees have cells. Humans have cells. Therefore: same thing. Google it, because I don't have time to educate you about biology.

He doesn't believe in bisexuality. He keeps on calling me queer and dyke 😂. He also thinks I'm a neoliberal despite me being centrist economically and nowhere near the authoritarian right quadrant 😂

[–]Hematomato 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

It's such a weird thing not to believe in. It's like refusing to believe in kangaroos because you aren't Australian. And no matter how many times people say: mate, I've seen them, they're very common, you just steadfastly insist that everyone's lying to you.

[–]gloomy_bear 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I know 😂. There's even some bisexuals that lie about being heterosexual or homosexual too. Like it's the second most common sexuality after heterosexual.

[–]Hematomato 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Oh, believe me, I know. I dated a woman for more than a year who wouldn't admit she was bisexual even though she very, very, very obviously was. Her story was that she was a monogamous heterosexual Christian, and she was sticking to it, even though everything she said and did proved the opposite.
