Fun fact: the really useful high-energy Li-ion chemistry is all at risk for this. If it's overcharged or undercharged, or ever (once) got too hot (from use or from being left in the car) your battery is a bomb waiting to go off. The safer chemistries (especially e.g. LiFePO4) can't be bribed to catch fire though it comes with an energy density penalty.

Imagine if he checked this in his luggage.
350 people would die.
How would the airport know if someone put a bomb in the checked luggage?
They never check the luggage that goes under the plane, never for me anyway.
