They supported it. The primary causes are more complex, dating back to the mid-1960s and the so-called "me me me" movement, part of which was the anti-psychiatry movement, popular among Baby Boomers in the US. The socio-political consequences of late-stage capitalism, and US politics since the Reagan Admin, reinforced emotivist politics and cultural infantilisim.
