Most of the food they throw out is probably safe to eat.

Except the trash bin has who knows how long other food scraps has been in the ben, you do an experament. Buy something to eat then leave it on your counter for a few hours and then eat it, see what happens. Letting people what's in a trash bin is a health risk.
