No its not. IT people are just lazy. What is best for corporate and IT is not what is best for its users.

Actually not entirely. MS generally puts all mail not from one of the large providers in spam automatically server side. Regardless of the mitigation steps one takes.

I have most of the standard security measures correctly implemented and I went through the hassle of registering with MS, providing them govt photo ID plus the IP, domain and hostname for matching PTR records, and I nor anyone using my domain can send email to a user without the initial email being auto delivered as spam.(it's delivered, they just have to actively whitelist it).

I've heard Google will implement a similar feature, but as of yet, I've never had an issue delivering to a Gmail user.

I have been hosting my own email account for many years using my own domain name and rented web server.

Here is my experience with gmail and hotmail. I have sent to and received from gmail, so gmail is not blocking email from my personal email account at my own domain.

I also have a hotmail account. Microsoft demanded to know my phone number to use their "free" service. Microsoft's hotmail placed email sent from my personal email from my own domain in the junk folder, but once it is marked "not junk" that does not happen any more.

Zoho is good. Based out of India, privacy-focused, and a very nice set-up.
