Opinion

Fact.

All modern computer processors are backdoored-by-design, and so airgapping all production machines is the only rational solution. Intel's 'Management Engine' and AMD's 'Platform Security Processor' openly snoop on everything you do on your computer, reporting this data back to whoever has keys to the CPU backdoors.

Didn't expect this when I clicked. Another great article.

Here, we should touch briefly on the issue of the ethics of CAD (Computer Aided Design) computers themselves. Almost every modern computer is manufactured in a Communist dictatorship, often by children. This is, after all, the reason companies manufacture in these regions: It is cheap to manufacture in the 'Slave Zones' because there are few human rights, and children are often used as labor.

A discussion about the ethics of computers. Security issues as well. And an argument that design was better when we weren’t using computers.

Proof. I totally agree.

When cars were made to drive. Instead of turning you into a fucking data mine.

Designers were better than today.

Less gatekeeping by the incompetent.

Makes me think of an E-Type Jag. That thing was designed with a slide rule. It's aesthetic still holds up today and is just about every petrol head's dream car.

Was expecting this to be an article about CAD by some Model T Ford lover and was primed to argue with you, but yes, the modern surveillance devices embedded in the cars are indeed a terrible thing

Not so much computers as better safety tests.

Cars now are built like bubbles so they can surround you with crumple zones and airbags.

It’s so weird when I read articles about car manufacturers facing chip shortages. Just build a car without a fucking touchscreen!

Good idea but back in the day the selling points for a new car were 427 cubic inch, engine and posi-traction; today it's how well it connects to a fuckin celll phone - the rest of the shit is never even mentioned, except how green its and how it values diversity. Would a tech-less car even compete?

The prepper market would gobble up brand-new '60s-early '70s designs.

"Fuck off, EMP! Do your worst, 5G/wifi/bluetooth!"

If there was a new car on the market without a computer in it I would be at the dealership today to trade my car in for one.

I agree, and the money people spend to restore "pre-regulated" cars is evidence of a market niche I wish I could afford to invest in.

You didn't have to pull the engine to fill up the windshield washer fluid.
