First, I've yet to hear a single person use a "Fact Checker" as a credible source in an argument. Rightfully so as it's too easy to show bias.

Second with regards to the "safety factor" of this technology, the argument of safety is absurd. u/passionflounder is correct this is about monitoring you. Most likely the end game being climate change restrictions. Like most things you can't just implement this technology without outrage. So you start small and scale it up over the years as people become used to it.

As stated in the article, most Americans 20 years ago would be outraged with todays lack of privacy. (Had it happened in the span of a 6 month period as oppose to 20 years) So the trend of subverting your privacy was implemented over the last 2 decades, little by little.

With the logic of "safety first" that organizations like MADD are using you could justify a lot of crazy shit. Why not put a camera in every bedroom just incase? You could claim it would end fake rape allegations and help prevent harm to women. You got nothing to hide right? Eventually they could even put a tax on sex! (My Grandfather used to always joke that one day they would find a way to put a meter on the bed! Now its looking more and more likely that one day soon it will come true!)

Anyway, 100% this is going to end with climate change. Of course if you got the money there will be some BS system like carbon credits and you can just buy you way out of it.

if you have never encountered fact checks used as arguments, you aren't arguing with enough people

Really? I've never had someone use one as a source is a serious debate. In all fairness I try not to argue with too many idiots. When people debate without good faith I disengage and just wish them the best. You would have better luck talking to drywall.

Arguing helps sharpen one's rhetoric, so it's worth the effort even if the other man won't be convinced.

It seems the spying on all cars is much more concerning than the addition of a kill switch...

To your point, the spying will enable authorities to more precisely deploy civil control weapons like kill switches.
