It started with a bad player with a history that included an attempted coup being allowed to re-enter political leadership and gain power legitimately before seizing control of everything, including the media; which was used to propagandize the population to at very least turn a blind eye to the atrocity being committed right under their nose.

Yes, we are in fact following that same process right now.
