I think a lot of the reasons are excuses. The simple fact is, at least in corporate member (I've been working in corporate America for 20 years), men (specifically white men) are being told they're not wanted. Corporations outright talk about not hiring more white men to their face. There's absolutely no shame in saying they want to get rid of white men and hire more people of color and or women. Bonus if they're alphabet people. You're bombarded all the time with DEI courses, all of which tell you that you, as a white man, are the problem and we need to have special courses every year to establish how to report you when you ultimately step out of line, despite statistics to back up that it's specific to one demographic. Is it really so hard to imagine that a portion of these men just give up and make an excuse to stay at home with the kids? Or take disability or unemployment?
