Perhaps, but I can see why African-Americans think they are not. Even liberal non-anti-semites like Whoopi Goldberg don't view Jews as people of color.

They see people who look white, and have even more social and economic privilege than the 'other whites'.

In terms of being visibly non-white, they are not of color. In terms of privilege, they are NOT in the same boat as the African-Americans and other people of color despite what the New York Times may be writing. They are only non-white in a purely genetic sense that their DNA is roughly 1/2 middle eastern, but not in any of the ways that actually matter socially.

I was in Mexico once and this American starts talking in English to some "white person" and gets absolutely flabbergasted when this "white person" refuses to speak English and responds in Spanish only, and offended when this "white person" gets annoyed that some American tourist is just assuming everyone speaks English.

This "white person" was Mexican. And I found the entire exchange hilarious. Tourist comes over to complain to me and I'm just like "you know Spain colonized mexico right? What skin color do Spanish people have? " It was hilarious, reminds me of the pissy tourists in France mad that everyone speaks French.

Equally funny are the American latinx types who get all like "no English is the language of colonialism you have to support our community by having the minority language, Spanish". Lolol.

    Mexicans are some of the biggest anti-black racists out there. Every time there is a conflict between whites and blacks, they always side with white people. That’s because they are white people. They are dragging down whiteness for everybody else.

    I am talking about the race dynamics in modern day USA, not 1930's Weimar Germany. Irish and Italians were not viewed as white either at one point, but are today, at least in the US

      She’s basically Eva Braun in blackface at this point, except that blackface done less harm to Black people than Kanye West and Clarence Thomas put together.
