Not everyone is like that. My family is Catholic, they don't have a bug up their ass about any other religions. There was a slight hub bub about marrying outside the faith, but that was 40 years ago last time anyone cared.

The issue is the narrative wants to paint them as handmaid's tale style authoritarians. Take the issue of abortion for example. Ask a normies what the religious right will do when they get in power and they'll say ban abortion completely to restrict women's rights.

About the only thing that they can agree on is that elective abortion is "undesirable", but there's no consensus on what laws should look like beyond banning elective abortion I the latter stages of pregnancy. Which is surprisingly not that controversial a position even on the left. There is a huge difference between the rhetoric used and what people actually believe.
