while there seems to be genuine democratic support for the recent canadian protests, i don't think it is a good time to draw such comparisons. history has shown time and again that crying wolf in the face of a stronger enemy (russia) will lead to the worst kind of infighting that when looking back everyone finds it regretful.

I disagree. Did you watch the video? Trudeau speaks generally about a small drifts toward authoritarianism in all countries. What he just did in Canada was exactly that.
It is possible to validly criticize both sides. And there is no good or bad time to do it.
