The majority of discourse happens digitally.

Separating different groups into their own echo-chamber (this site and reddit, twitter and gab) and then add politicians lying about the other side that can't defend itself because it's on a different platform... and then everybody goes crazy as they enter their own make believe fantasy world.

I don't think Republicans and Democrats hate each other. I think people look badly upon the political parties that most oppose their beliefs. It's become easy for the media to group people this way to sensationalize the news. When you are out in public, do you really think about politics while interacting with other people?

And don't forget about how mainstream social media companies discriminate against Conservatives.

Usually not, but if a Marxist Democrat sees you wearing a MAGA hat: they'll flip out on you (I've seen videos posted here on SaidIt).

Pretty much... Both sides ignore facts that contradict their opinions. Democrats ignore facts that ain't politically correct, and Republicans ignore facts that contradict trickle-down economics, for example.

Sports. Most of our sports have 2 opposing teams. We have been trained that way since youth.

I think both of these come from the same cause: people are naturally drawn towards an "us vs. them" mentality — although that doesn't mandate a two-party system; in multi-party democracies: you often see a left-wing coalition and a right-wing coalition.
