jobs are more important than freedom i guess.

You sort of lose a type of freedom when you lose a job and start losing everything else. See how much freedom you have when you're homeless. Surprisingly little.

Absolutely. People like to pretend that the government is the only thing capable of taking away freedoms, but freedom is so much more than that.
