If the Republican party could remake itself as a coalition of libertarians and populists, I might be convinced. I doubt it though. There's too much money in big government politics, which for Republicans usually involves fat defense contracts and preferential "regulation" loopholes for allies. (Dems are even worse of course.) It's unfortunate.

Spot on. But if the libertarian ideology keeps growing in popularity, the republicans will be forced to take on some of the ideals. Just to survive against the dems. The dems can't take on anything libertarian (except marijuana deregulation) since their main platform revolves around totalitarianism.

The Dems won't even take on MJ deregulation at the federal level! It's ridiculous. In my dreams Trump signs an EO devolving MJ regulation to the states sometime around October. I want to see the media spin that one.
