Who TF upvoted this? None of those links show any company actively mining deep sea vents. It is all speculation, and most of those imply it isn't being done yet.

Greenpeace could be thrown out of the UN body overseeing controversial plans to begin deep-sea mining.

So we have greenpeace, known for propaganda among other unethical methods, fighting to stop deep sea mining from ever being allowed before it ever happens. And we have this claim that an endangered species is going extinct because of the thing greenpeace is trying to stop. All the evidence points to that thing not even happening yet.

What the fuck is everyone so gullible?!

Socks upvotes himself all the time with his gorillion alts.

That's not possible, you moron. Ask m7.

It's just info. Deep sea mining is in the news recently, as you read. Continue reading or search for companies already licensed for deep sea mining: https://deepseamining.ac/companies#gsc.tab=0

Here is another update on deep sea mining: https://www.sierraclub.org/sierra/norway-greenlights-world-s-first-commercial-deep-sea-mining-project

Norway was the first country to allow deep sea mining, which was approved on 9 January. Deep sea mining will soon happen in Norwegian water.

EDIT: Here is a recent purchase of the necessary equipment for the mining survey (which will locate the areas Loke will mine): https://www.reuters.com/markets/deals/norways-loke-buys-uk-deep-sea-mining-firm-lockheed-2023-03-16/

More links all confirming that deep sea mining is not currently being done.

More links confirming that your claim that snails are being harmed by it is pure bullshit.

So you're not reading any of the material at those links? Recap:

1st link: In 2019, [Scaly-foot gastropod] was declared endangered on the IUCN Red List, the first species to be listed as such due to risks from deep-sea mining of its vent habitat.

2nd link: Since the 1960s there have been numerous tests and trials of deep sea mining, showing that this displaces marine life.

These address the post topic.

You asked: "Who TF is mining thermal vents?"

Answer: those who've done the many tests and trials of deep sea mining.

No need for you to be upset about this.

[–]Canbot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (14 children)

Wrong. The first one is simply claiming that because they are small in number and have a limited habitat that they are potentially at risk from deep sea mining if it were to happen.

The second one purports to have done testing on what the effects of deep sea mining might be.

Both are obviously biased and neither has anything to do with any real mining operations.

NO ONE IS MINING DEEP SEA VENTS.

Your claim that the "tests" were actual mining expeditions is bullshit.

Socks is not a person you should bother arguing with, the entire forum knows this, do yourself a favor and ignore this tomfool or block him altogether.

[–]Canbot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

There is always value in pointing out his bullshit for the benefit of everyone else. If you just ignore him you give him carte blanche to manipulate those who can't see through his bullshit without help.

Except that you're wrong and your only contribution to Musky's post is to bully a user. That's fucked up.

Also - how is it that someone like you is an Admin? If I look here - https://saidit.net/s/AskSaidIt/about/log - for example, you've removed ONE spam post on a rare occasion. That's it. At least try to help out if you're an admin, rather than bully users. Perhaps also contribute something.

[–]YoMamma 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

As usual, you have nothing to contribute. Shut the fuck up, and look up Saidit's suggestions for responding to the comment or the post, but NOT to attack the user.

Said the guy who told others to kill themselves.

As I've told you, idiot, I'll respond with ANYTHING to anyone who bullies me. How have you survived this long without accidently forgetting to breathe, you stupid fuck?

[–]YoMamma 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

You're trying too hard to change the topic. Why is that? What's your motive? And why are you so upset about this? Look again at the thread, regarding the Scaly-foot gastropod, which is declared endangered because of deep sea mining tests and in relation to mining that is planned. It's so easy to understand. Your desperate attempts to change the topic and develop different arguments are really strange. You are unhinged.

[–]weavilsatemyface 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

they are small in number and have a limited habitat that they are potentially at risk from deep sea mining

Right. They are endangered because there are not many of them and they live in a very limited habitat.

So what's your problem?

[–]Canbot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

The problem is that his claims are different than that. His claim is that they are endangered because deep sea mining is destroying their habitat.

[–]weavilsatemyface 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

His claim is that they are endangered because deep sea mining is destroying their habitat.

That's not what he said.

Risks exist before the event occurs. You don't have to already have cancer to be at risk of cancer.

If there were billions of them in a million different habitats, they wouldn't be endangered no matter what deep-sea mining was taking place. They are endangered because there are so few of them in such a specialised habitat where deep sea mining is likely to take place, so they are at risk. They could be at risk from many different things, and one of them is deep-sea mining at the vents. Doesn't matter whether there is large-scale mining happening right now or not, people are planning it and the risk exists.

They're not at risk from Donald Trump building a golf course in their habitat, or at risk from deforestation for palm oil, or at risk from global warming, or at risk of being beheaded by ISIS terrorists. But they are at risk of deep-sea mining.

It's common sense really.
